My issue is with a new Mac running Mtn. Lion 10.8.3, I think, I'm running remotely right now.

It's a communal machine with the most power in the Lab so it gets used a lot by others.

Everything works well if I log in and start Boinc and leave it at the login screen. But if someone else logs in E@H stops running.

Did I miss the "do what I want" switch when I installed it or is there a setting I'm missing, or is this just the way it works?

Thanks,
Joe

Running Boinc on Mac when anohter user logs in

Is there something like "service mode" with Macs? That would prevent using a GPU though.

Thanks Gundolf It probably

Thanks Gundolf

It probably is something like the GPU being assigned to the person logged in.

I set the bad example of never logging out so Boinc can run therfore nobody else does either.

You can add (the other) users

You can add (the other) users to the permission list to run BOINC Manager, see http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X#Selecting_which_users_may_run_BOINC_Manager for more on that.

When you install BOINC on a

When you install BOINC on a Mac, there is a screen (if I remember correctly) which has a tick-box (or something similar) to 'allow all users of this Mac to control BOINC' or something along those lines. It's not selected by default - you have to watch for it and select it. You should be able to just reinstall BOINC and select it this time and all will be fixed. I can remember doing something like that on a Mac about a year ago.

Cheers,
Gary.

I'll reinstall it next time I'm in the lab and see if I can find the "do what I want" checkbox

In Windows it's where you either accept the defaults and keep clicking or go into the Advanced options. In the Advanced part you can specify where the files and database is located and whether or not all users can use Boinc. It's also where you decide if you want to use the screensaver or not, it is mostly checkboxes.
