Topic 189854

Hi, all.

Running E@H v4.79 on Athlon Barton core under WinXP SP2, BOINC v4.37, I repeatedly get this message (only the WU# varies, and the time, of course):

"9/7/2005 9:27:22 PM|Einstein@Home|Result w1_0714.0__0714.3_0.1_T09_S4hB_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
9/7/2005 9:27:22 PM|Einstein@Home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
9/7/2005 9:27:22 PM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited
9/7/2005 9:27:22 PM||schedule_cpus: must schedule
9/7/2005 9:27:22 PM|Einstein@Home|Restarting result w1_0714.0__0714.3_0.1_T09_S4hB_1 using einstein version 4.79

The WU ALWAYS resumes immediately, not impacting computation or credit, and result ALWAYS validates.

Question is, should this be of some concern, or may I safely continue to ignore it?

Forgive me if this topic has already been covered ad nauseum, for I looked back for related threads for a couple of months previous and found nothing relevant there. Also, please advise me if this is a BOINC problem rather than an Einstein problem. I have no way of knowing, as I run only Einstein work. In that case, I should post to the BOINC message board, rather than bothering you good Einstein folks :-)

It certainly does report this error often, nearly each WU, and sometimes multiple occurances on a WU. I am often doing other things - games, email, scans,etc - concurrantly, but there seems to be no correlation. I've been running Einstein for nearly 6 months solid, and I've been noticing the same message for what seems to be just as long.

Uhmmm ... He did use the word "repeatedly" so I guess it's doing it quite a bit :).

The exact message is covered in the FAQ and it's probably in the Wiki in greater detail. Have you checked out either the FAQ or the Wiki?

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks for the look, Gary. I'll head over to the FAQ section pronto!

(2 minutes later) AHA! It is as I suspected, a nonrelevant bug. Thanks again, Gary :-)

You're welcome. Have a look in the Wiki too as there is a much fuller description and explanation there about the message. It's well worth a look, particularly for the suggestions about disk checking, etc.

Cheers,
Gary.

Will do, sir, I know I've seen the ubiquitous WIKI link several times, but I've just returned from scanning the new BOINC forum, it's 12:34 ayem here in Filthadelphia, and me ole peepers are getting a mite strained. I'll have to defer further education until tomorrow.

I much appreciate your tolerance for foolish questions and your perseverence in answering some of them for what must seem the 1000th time.

There's a link on the front page of the BOINC website but it's even easier to just google for "boinc wiki" and the link comes up in the first hit. Google is your friend .... :).

It's really no problem, particularly when people take the advice and run with it, and improve their knowledge as a result of it. That in itself delivers sufficient reward :).

Cheers,
Gary.
