this is the first time I'm trying to install Boinc and I got this message "Remote control not allowed; using loopback address".
Could you help me ?
It is reporting a 'State' of Remote Control (RC).
If you want RC you can put a textfile named remotehost or so in a directory and that you can use the Boinc manager on an other machine to connect to yours.
If you did not make that file, you will get the message you got.
If you don't want RC than you can disgard the message. It is not an error but more an indication of what communication you allowed.
[edit] hi Kilcock - look at that timing - just 7 sec apart! great minds think alike eh?
A worrying looking message that is probably exactly what you want: here is what it means.
It is possible to set up the crunching on one machine, watched by a monitoring program on another. That is what remote control means.
If it is disabled, as it is in your case, other people can't sneak a look at how your machine is crunching. That is probably what you want.
Using loopback address is a tekky way of saying that the connection that would be made between remote machines is all happening inside one machine - or in ordinary language local control is still enabled.

Yes, we both are willing to give a short solution to this 'getting starting' type of Question. I like to analyze things, but being a non-native english speaker, it gives me problems formulating things correct, timely and clearly.
