The new changes that forces ALL users who already have an account to have to login to allow their data to be exported should be changed. All users who already have an account should be grandfathered in, just like other projects have done such as World Community Grid.

Most users don't even crunch on this anymore and thus all their stats on third party stats sites, especially the competition ones, will be gone forever now.

I believe the problem is that the GDPR law does not allow us to grandfather-in these kind of privacy settings. It is unfortunate that we have to 'play it safe', since there is the potential for lawsuits and actual fines.

I am not aware of what WCG has done with their stats. exports policy. However, GDPR is not a simple law or set of laws. Different lawyers who have examined it may have different interpretations, and judges and courts will have to decide on things going forward. I believe our legal-staff and DPO has said: we need to make stats. exports, among other things, use an opt-in process. (Thus no grandfathering.)
