Since we've been sharing songs for quite a while, I thought it might be interesting to post about books we're reading or have read. While I hope we can find books on Cosmology mostly, I guess any book you've read and liked is fare for this thread.

I'll start off with two:

The first is Knocking on Heaven's Door by Lisa Randall. This is her second book (the first was Warped Dimensions) I'm half way through and it is extremely informative and well written. Oh yes, it is not a book on Theology.

(Parenthetically, some neighbors and I are reading another book on a kind of cosmology...The Divine Comedy of Dante. We've just made our way out of Hell and are starting the climb up the mountain of Purgatory.)

The second book I've just finished is the new one by Lawrence Krauss, A Universe from Nothing. You'll be amazed at how important Nothing can be. If it weren't for Nothing we wouldn't be here now.

Perhaps we might even discuss some of the books that several of us have read. Just a thought.

I've read "Il nome della rosa", by Umberto Eco. Probably some of you might have seen the movie, with Sean Connery acting as friar Wilhelm.

Currently I'm reading

Currently I'm reading Spinward Fringe Broadcast 3: Triton by Randolph Lalonde, a Canadian author of science fiction and fantasy residing in Sudbury, Ontario.

My wife read most of the Fringe series of books on the kindle and finally succeeded in getting me to check them out. Admittedly, they are pretty good.

Hiya Garry, hope everything is well with you and yours. I did a search through the kindle and found a few of his books, though I'm unsure if any are in that series. At some point I'll read some of his to see if I enjoy them, I'm sure I will. There is one selection that has eight of his works for only $0.99. Nice! I'll check it out after I get through the Fringe books.

The Galaxy Primes
Masters of Space
The Skylark of Space
Skylark Three
Spacehounds of IPC
Subspace Survivors
Triplanetary
The Vortex Blaster

A few weeks ago I read a handful of short stories by Philip K. Dick (1928-1982), entertaining stuff.

Tullio: I read "The Name of the Rose" in translation when it first came out. I was enchanted with it. I was on vacation in Cancun Mexico and I couldn't stop reading it. One day while on the beach I was thoroughly immersed and got the worst sunburn I ever had. Books can be dangerous

I read this series when I was a kid. Doc Smith was a terrific writer of Space Opera. I think I read the series at least three times.

Currently reading "From

Currently reading "From Infinity to Here: The Quest for the Ultimate Theory of Time" By Sean Carroll. Not the easiest read, but really good..
And just finished "The Bit and the Pendulum: The New Physics of Information" by Tom Siegfried.

Trying to keep up with the current state of Physics and Cosmology. It is wilder than any SciFi.

It was a case of "desipere in librum" like our Latin fathers said.I hope you recover from your sunburns.
