Had an RAC of 45.22 yesterday but have a RAC of 37.10 as of today. The total credit has not changed. Why the drop in the RAC.
The 'A' in RAC stands for "average" - that's an average over (recent) time.
It just so happened that your Linux P4 didn't need to contact HQ yesterday, but just carried on crunching all by itself. No reporting in --> same credit divided by more time, so lower average.
Now that yesterday's five completed WUs have been reported and validated, your RAC is up to 54. Don't worry about it - RAC always fluctuates, but the grand total rises inexorably.
On the other hand, you perhaps should worry about your Windows Celeron, which has returned no valid work at all since you added it to the project 15 months ago! It's still picking up work to do, but for some reason I don't understand the batch you picked up on 25 August have been timed out already, well before the stated two-week deadline. Maybe someone else could comment on this.
Recently when I was crunching a WU in 21,000 CPUsecs, I was receiving 177 credits.
After an app change, I started to crunch at 18,000 CPUs per WU and received 120 credits.
Now I am still crunching at 18,000 CPUs but only getting 110 credits.
How screwy is that?
In a space of 3 weeks my RAC has dropped from 2,200 to 1,600. Can I ask "What is going on"?
I am NOT a scientist. I am NOT here for the science. I am here for the competition with my fellow crunchers. The advantage to BOINC and Einstein is born out of that competition. I compete because I like to see my machines working flat out - and MY joy is to see just how flat-out they can go, and how they compare with others here.
I could not give one hoot whether or not I find a Pulsar. In fact, I will NEVER know if I find a Pulsar and I will equally NEVER know if I have found one because there will be many other people claiming a piece of that action as well. So for me, I say, 'stuff the science' that is NOT what I am here for. That science is piggy-backing my willingness to see how fast my machines are is OK by me. THAT is why I am here.
Now if Einstein is not prepared to assist me in my ends (it is no skin off their nose, whatever they do!), then I shall migrate until I can find a more accommodating programme.

That's funny - on 19 August you were in it for the science.
But like Tony, you got lucky. You did nothing, but Bernd and Akos put a lot of work into getting the science done more quickly. Same credits, faster apps means more credit per hour. Now the credits have been re-aligned, the status quo before the release of the new apps has been restored.
