How are Bruce and his merry band notified when a new pulsar odd that E@H finds? I have wondered about it since computers do most of the crunching. I'm also willing to bet that eventually something that doesn't fit the our understanding of pulsars and such will be found in the data.

Hi!
For the Pulsar search, the final stage of the processing pipeline is actually a human looking at diagrams that are drawn from hundreds of workunits of collected data. So it will be a scientist who makes the decision whether to follow up on something that looks like a pulsar signal or dismiss data as noise or other non-signal.
So it is not some individual result file that will cause an alarm bell to ring in offices :-) , it's a pattern from a collection of results.
