There is a problem at UWM that we can't diagnose or fix remotely. From the symptoms it looks like a network issue to me, but due to the nature of the problem we currently can't log into the machine from remote. We'll have to wait until tomorrow morning (UWM time) when someone is physically there. We'll keep as much as possible running of the project from here (AEI) until then. With the workarounds implemented on AEI so far I think only the server status page and possibly the stats export is actually affected. "work" is being generated and sent out again.

That might explain all the strange errors I've got from the website. Busy errors. Proxy errors. Blank pages.
We had to stop work
)
We had to stop work distribution for the O1AS20-100I and O1AS20-100F applications. Work for all other applications is available. Please choose FGRPB1 if you run out of work for O1AS20-100 because it will take some time (at least 12h) before we can enable work distribution again.

I'm picturing Chris O'Dowd from one of my favorite BBC shows, "The IT Crowd"... "Have you tried turning it off and then back on again?" ;-)
Good luck squashing the bugs.
Turning it off and on again
)
Turning it off and on again would be about the worst we can do.
At least two HDs failed Friday night on the frontend server, and today we could neither successfully repair the RAID nor finish to setup a replacement machine. The proxy web server runs from memory and works, everything that needs access to the disks currently doesn't. If we shut down the machine, we would lose the bit of functionality it still provides.

Two HDDs at the same time?

Two HDDs at the same time? They must have been struck with a huge GW !
Good luck Scotty on fixing it!

Well, I was referencing a comedy show. Don't go reinforcing the stereotype that Germans lack a sense of humor. ;-)
On a serious note, we volunteers certainly appreciate all the work that you and all the other admins, developers, etc. do AND the fact that you do your level best to keep us informed all the way.
Thank you!

I can verify that, at least as of 2011, the developers have a scrawny chicken doll on hand that they may choke the neck of from time to time. IIRC it made unpleasant noises while you did that. For the full experiential feedback I gather. I was told this chook was an aide to productivity. I did, and still do, take that assertion on trust. :-)
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

What has been seen cannot be un-seen. O.o
Well, stop choking your chicken and get back to working on the servers now (there's a double entendre in there that I sincerely hope is not lost in translation). ;-)
