Perhaps saying "I told you so" is your place in life. I followed your advice and am running the Beta. Everything seems to be exactly as #5. in the link you provided says it should be. However, the app_info.xml was not overwritten . Should I delete it or just leave it be?
BTW, "About Boinc Manager" under the Help menu still indicates version 5.2.13. Is the Beta just an add-on to 5.2.13?

caktus,
You'll have to replace the app_info.xml file with the one from the zip file, that is why your message still says you are "resuming computation" or "starting result xxxx_xxxx_xxxx [i]using einstein version 479". Remember on the instruction page it said
"4. Locate the einstein project directory. If you installed everything with default settings, it should be "C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\einstein.phys.uwm.edu\\"
Put the three files from the zip archive into there.
If you already have "app_info.xml" be sure to replace/overwrite it with the new one!"
Boinc still reports that is is version 5.2.13 because that's what it is. You haven't changed Boinc in any way, you've only changed the Einstein science app.
Please make sure to move that app_info.xml, and when the dialog box tells you that a file named app_info.xml already exixts and asks if you'd like the new file to overwrite it, the answer is "yes".

Actually, the first two times I d/l'd the Beta (to Desktop) and unzipped, it only produces folder wich appeared empty although a virus scan indicated three objects were inside. The third time I d/l'd the Beta directly to "C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\einstein.phys.uwm.edu\\" and unzipped but there was no option to overwrite the "app_info.xml". Should I backup and do it over?

Thanks for being patient.
You may be lucky and find the file in your recycle bin, but if not, I suggest you create a new folder, maybe inside your "TEMP" folder on C drive and unzip to there. then you can open that folder and the einstein.phys.uwm.edu side-by-side and drag 'n' drop from there.

Sorry I wasn't here earlier (but I see Michael did his usual good job). From what I gather you are a little uneasy about what happened, if anything, with the unzipped files from your first two downloads. That is, your third download, although a little unconventional seemed to do the trick - except for the fact that you did not have to overwrite the app_info.xml file. Or perhaps, you just misunderstood that instruction. Being a new Beta user, you should not have had an older app_info.xml to overwrite (unless it got there from one of the first two downloads). (i.e. The overwrite instruction is there for people who had previously used the Beta 0.03 app.) Now, regarding the "where did the other 2 downloads go?" question (if you are concerned about it), you could do a Windows "Search" on app_info.xml to see it it shows up in any "strange" places. If the search finds anything, the other two Einstein_0.18 files would probably be there, too and you could just delete them.
Sorry didn't post back for awhile. Work long days on the weekends.
Decided to just remove everything to do with BOINC and start clean. Here are screenshots of what I've got now. Could you take a look and let me know if I've got it right?
Sorry, I made a mistake about overwriting the app_info.xml file a few posts back. It does not get overwritten in the transition from the official app to the beta app, because ... the official app has no app_info.xml file. Looked at your screenshots, and the two I could make out look as if the beta is running as intended. Kinda large queue, which will mean a long turnaround time as you get further into the queue and thereafter (which won't endear you to your co-crunchers, to have to wait for credit), but you choose your preferences to suit your needs, period.
The Messages pic was too garbled to make out, but I saw a lot more red than I'd ordinarily like. Hope it was just the server telling you you already had a load of work, so not giving you more, but I'm not sure that kind of message would merit being displayed in red.

Sorry bout that. I think the red messages were just about loosing some results or incomplete work units when I moved the "einstein_018_windows_intelx86" into the "einstein.phys.uwm.edu" folder. Then loaded new WU"s when I updated Boinc. Here's a higher resolution image (hope it's ledgable)

Looks fine from here. Just reporting workunits lost in the changeover, but which, it appears, were promptly resent to you, same datafile, same slices. Expect we'll see you hammerin' out the credits. :-)

Michael
