Hi
I have been running einstein for a time on two computers
but when the server problem happened 24/25 I found I was not getting any uploads. I tried to rectify this by de-attaching and re-attaching the project but I have not been able to re-attach since despite trying many times. The error message I get is invalid URL but I also get the file master_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.xml down loaded from the project which contains the following:-
-----------------------------
Einstein@Home STATUS
At approximately 03:00 UTC November 24, a critical file server failed.
We hope to have this repaired and working by 07:00 UTC November 25.
This is our first project downtime in more than 160 days.
More information will be posted here as we have it.
If you are new to the project, please come back here in a day or two!
If you are already participating in Einstein@Home, there is no need for
any action on your part. Please just be patient.
-----------------------------------
I am being patient but would love some advise on when I can try to re-connect to the project or if I am doing something wrong.

Problems re-attaching to the project
)
I had about the same problem, and solved it by hitting the update button of the BOINC manager. Due to the server problem, your computer couln't contact the server, and tried to reconnect at longer intervals. I think your client is now waiting for the next interval to be expired. Hitting the update button connects to the project immediately overriding that interval.

Thanks for your help. I have tried to do this but I am running a Solaris version of BOINC and if I attach to the project select it and press the update button the BOINC manger window is destroyed and the Unix window that started the manager displays "segment error". I expect it is due to my old (4.43) version of BOINC but I think this is the latest available which runs on Solaris. I can do an attach to project using the Unix command line but I do not think there is a command line that does the equivalent to the "update button". May be I will have to wait until the next interval to expire. Thanks again for your help

Perhaps you can try -update_prefs URL?
Good luck!

I have tried the update_prefs but this did not work
I have left the system alone over the week-end to see if there is a time out issue but this does not work ether (Same results). I have re-installed BOINC (same problem found)
I have found the same machine will attach happily to SETI and have used another completely separate system to attach to Einstein and have got back exactly the same results with the same file returned as mentioned previously.
All I can think that is common between the systems is my project ID number. Has anyone found that there ID on the server has become corrupted before ?
Any help on this one would be gratefully received.
Nigel, Could you post any
)
Nigel,
Could you post any error messages in BOINC manager?
Have you entered http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu (without any spaces before or after) as url?
Can you connect with the firewall off? Although I don't think that's causing it as you can connect to another project...
Can you ping http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu and post the results?
Regards,
Bert

RE: Hi Bert I have copied

Hello Nigel,
The first thing you should try is to change http://einstein.phys.edu/ into http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu when attaching to the project. I think this would solve it.

Hi Bert
Sorry on that last attempt I did incorrectly type the url unlike previous attempts. I enclose the response I got today at 09:12:11 12/12/06.

BOINC couldn't get main page for http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/.
Please check the URL and try again.

What about your proxy
)
What about your proxy settings? I'm affraid I cannot provide much help, but you should have edited the client_state file with your settings such as:
4
80
192.168.111.111
8888
username
password
I hope this helps.

RE: What about your proxy

Bert
I have checked this and all seems to be well. The same “client state file is being used by the SETI project and it is sending and receiving fine. The strange thing is that an other machine on the same network with the same proxy settings is also working fine but I did not de-attach this one from the project when the Einstein server went down. That seems to be the only difference between the two machines. If I could I would post the client file but cannot due to system security reasons. Thanks for your help I will continue to try to attach from time to time.
Best Regards
Nigel
