Since the upgrade to 7.2.42 (x64), the time lines on all tasks have jumped to 64 hours! They were nothing like that before the upgrade. Is it possible to regress to my previous quicker version?

Yes it is...but first is it actual crunching time or the guesstimated crunching time that changed? If just the guesstimated crunching time it will fix it self in a few days with no problems. Otherwise, finish or abort all your current tasks from all projects on that pc, then download and install the older version and install it right over the top of the current version. It should work just fine.

The only difference between

The only difference between 7.2.39 and 7.2.42 is a bugfix that makes sure BOINC can communicate with all the projects it had previously had HTTP errors 400 with.

Seeing the times to completion on your tasks, the one you finished with 7.2.42 is within the same time frame as 7.2.39
The only thing is, you had a CasA task in between your FGRPSSEs, and this can throw off the times to completion, because it's a different kind of application, with its own set of resource values. BOINC will only keep track on the project estimates, not of the individual application estimates.

So running a faster task in between slower tasks, can throw the estimated time to completion off by several hours.

Why does he need to finish or abort work before going back? If at least he needs to go back to a buggier version of BOINC than the present one is.

Installing an older version over a newer version gives a big chance of an error being thrown at the end of the installation, saying that a part of the BOINC installation could not be updated. Normally doing a repair install of the same BOINC version you just installed, will fix that. Or if you do need to install an older version over a newer one, just uninstall BOINC through Add/Remove Programs, before installing the newer version.

Unless you deliberately delete the BOINC data directory, or a catastrophic catastrophe happens with your hard drive, while downgrading BOINC versions, you shouldn't have to worry about work in cache, as these are registered to the science application you run it on, not the BOINC version. And really, who can foresee a catastrophic catastrophe?

Hmm I thought it was tied to the Boinc version, my mistake, sorry.
