Hi There,
In my account I have 2 computers... They are the same !!!
I had to reinstall and it seems like I can't merge them.
407434 is curent
427431 is the old one...
But I noticed that the old one (427431) still has workunits attached to it... but they are past due...
Is there a way to get rid of the work for this computer so I can Merge it woth the other one ?
It has almost 1000 credits and I don't want to lose them :-)
Thanks for your help

Problem merging ?
)
If they are "different" in any way, you can't merge them. If it's a website problem, you should have gotten an error message. If it's a difference, you shouldn't be offered the second one as an option.
There is no problem with deleting a host - the "new host" won't show those credits, but you as a user still have them. It's just like if you bought a new computer and sold the old one. You can't delete, however, until the results have passed deadline, _and_ been deleted off the webpages by the project.
Someone may come along with advice on "forcing" a merge, depending on what your host records say, but I don't have enough knowledge to attempt going there.

RE-SERVE,
This is from Gary's instruction to someone needing to merge, which was accomplished successfully: "If you go to your account page and view your computers you will see that you now have two. You have a new CPUID and also the old pre-crash one is still visible. Click on the old one and down the bottom of the page that comes up you will see the "merge" option. If you click that you will merge your old CPUID into your new one and once that is completed, your previous credit and outstanding results will be transferred to your new CPUID. You will probably have to "Update" the project from your BOINC Manager to make this happen quickly although it will happen automatically when the next client/server communication takes place.
Be sure to look at and follow carefully all instructions given to you during the merge process."
(emphasis mine)
Does this equate to the merge attempt you did? If not, please give it another try, as per Gary's instruction, and then let us know how you get on.

They may not merge. The old

They may not merge. The old one reports a different Cache size than the new one. That might just be different enough not to allow the merge.

Shame on me for not noticing that, I guess I made only a cursory comparison.

Hi Patrick,
Just give it some time (about two weeks) for the workunits to be cleared from the database. Then you can delete the host. You won't lose any credit by doing so.

Apart from the cache size mismatch which is puzzling if they are indeed the same machine, the other anomaly is that the machine you are calling the old one is in fact the newest CPUID.
Did you at some stage restore a saved backup copy of the BOINC directory? You started off with 407434 and then your machine later became 427431 and now somehow it's back to 407434?? Bit of a neat trick, that one :).
Despite the apparent discrepancy in cache size, I still reckon you will be able to merge those two CPUIDs. Can you please tell us which one you tried the merge operation on, thanks? If you tried to merge 427431, what actual response did you get? My guess is that you may have to merge 407434 into 427431. It should be possible to merge to the highest CPUID but before you try again please report back with details of what you have already tried.
Cheers,
Gary.
