Dear all,
I have seen that my brand new computer hangs when executing Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Parkes PMPS XT) v1.39 (BRP5-cuda32-nv270) tasks.
I had to suspend these tasks for my computer.
I have read posts about Parkes PMPS and it seems I fit the requirements.
Other computers that I manage don't have this problem.
Could anyone tell me why is this happening?
My specs:
- ubuntu 14.04 64 bit
- BOINC 7.2.42
- Intel Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v3 @ 2.40GHz × 12
- 32 Gb RAM
- Nvidia Quadro K4200 4Gb
- Nvidia Driver 340.76

Unfortunately, the only person likely to be able to do that is yourself :-).
The app has been around for quite a while and is well tested against a whole lot of different hardware and software environments. I would think that the problem is to do with your setup rather than the app itself. I know that's very cold comfort but you first need to check all the obvious stuff like RAM sticks, good clean power and cool running temperatures. I know you said your machine is brand new but faulty components do occur in brand new machines.
The other thing I would do is try out the latest version of the app which is currently in beta test. You would need to allow beta test apps in your project preferences to do this. One advantage of the test app is that it uses a lot less CPU support than the standard app. It would be interesting to know if that makes any difference.

Well, BOINC is running perfectly with other 34 projects that are active for that computer. Also with projects that use the GPU like Milkyway, Asteroids, Collatz, Poem, SETI... and with any other application of Einstein except that one.
The computer CPUs never go above 60 Celsius at 100% capacity, they are Intel Xeon, when other CPUs go above 90 C.
I don't know how my hardware could be malfunctioning only in that very specific situation, that actually is not so special.
I was thinking more something like a problem with the Nvidia driver for Ubuntu, and the app.
But if you cannot give me an idea, I think I would leave it unresolved.

I don´t know where you get your Nvidia drivers from, but I use
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-uk (not from Ubuntu repos)
Currently I am running Nvidia 349.12 (Beta) and before that 337.12 for several months.
I would also suggest running only E@H / BRP6 tasks on this host while you investigate the problem.

Are you using those drivers with Ubuntu and a Nvidia Quadro K4200?
My experience is that not all the updates from the manufacturer work and you have better results with user-tested drivers, at least for Ubuntu.
Update Nvidia drivers can be a nightmare and I have been having a hard time doing it in many Ubuntu computers, but also sometimes in Windows. Sometimes when a driver is not working is really hard to revert to the original configuration.
If you tell me these versions work with Ubuntu and a Quadro K4200, I will try them. Otherwise I won't risk.

If no users test then I guess there will no ¨user-tested¨ drivers will there?
I´ve never had a nightmare, i have had to re-install a driver a few times after doing a stupid thing like re-installing Ubuntu updates. So i keep two or three of versions local.
The only driver issues I have ever had, and they were common, have come from Ubuntu repos.
