good day folks. ive come back to e@h after an extendid absence. and am haveing the darndist problem. on my one and only host
http://einsteinathome.org/host/420359
sorry, dont know how to shorten url's in bb code.
the credit im claming and the credit im being grantid is hudgely different. after looking at other hosts on the same wu's i see that my system is apparantly overclaming credit?
background.
boinc core cliant 5.5.0 - crunch3r's
einstine "standard" app, i.e. no apti.
before anyone suggests it, with less than 2 weeks to go i didnt want to go opti mainly because of the calibrating cliant... ive dealt with config files on apache, mysql, and php. and got tired of dealing with them.. but its been so long since ive used that maybe theres buttons now?
anywho, sorry to ramble. my question is, why the heck is my system overclaiming?
i even ran a benchmark yesterday. to see if that would help.
6/8/2006 2:39:35 PM||Running CPU benchmarks

e@h is the only attachd project..
suggestions?

overclaiming credit
)
I believe Crunch3r's client uses an optimised benchmark and is intended for use with an optimised app. Using it with a standard app one would expect it to overclaim. That is why optimised clients are deprecated in favour of a calibrating client.
You need to either switch to an optimised app
or switch back to the standard boinc client
or (best option) switch to the Truxoft calibrating client and an optimised app

Hi Paul, welcome back. You are back at an exciting time with the S5 run soon to start.
Your problem is that you are using an optimised client (BOINC 5.5.0) with the non-optimised, standard science app. You are effectively doing slow crunching and fooling BOINC into thinking your computer is a lot snappier than it really is. You have basically three choices.
1. Uninstall 5.5.0 and install 5.4.9 to get slow crunching but "proper" credit claims.
2. Leave 5.5.0 but replace the science app with Akos' S41.07 optimised version. This will give you 6-fold increase in crunching speed and a 6-fold decrease in credit claim. You would probably end up claiming around 25 which would be about half of the "proper" claim. However the quorum effect would probably give you a granted credit in the 40-50 range most of the time. The oly downside of this is that if two in the quorum do the same thing (ie underclaim) then you force the third to suffer as well. This is probably better than leaving things as they are because if two of you are vastly overclaiming then you may possibly be accused of "assisting" your credit score :). Please realise that some people can get a bit hung up about this. To me the science is much more important which is why it wouldn't bother me.
3. Replace 5.5.0 with a "calibrating" BOINC client such as the one provided by Trux or the one that comes with BoincStudio. You will find threads in Cruncher's Corner that talk about these two clients. BoincStudio looks particularly interesting but is in early development, changing rapidly but has lots of potential. Read the threads and you will know as much as me. With the calibrating client, you can install Akos' S41.07 science app and then enjoy the best of both worlds - fast crunching coupled with acceptable credit claims on a par with what the standard configuration would claim. In this particular case you should be claiming around the 40-45 mark once the calibration has properly settled.
Personally I would recommend the third option, even although you said you don't want to go that route. Yes, there is more to study up on before you get started, but it's fairly straight-forward. There is a sticky thread in Cruncher's Corner about using calibrating clients if you are using an optimised app. Read it through and you should understand the issues a bit better.
In about 2 weeks time there will be a transition from the current S4 data to the new, more sensitive S5 data and it is not clear yet as to exactly what will happen during the transition. There may be new apps although there is a suggestion that people may be able to continue crunching with the current optimised apps. The final decision has not been made yet. The good thing is that if you are using an Akos optimised app you won't have to worry since it is a drop-in replacement for the standard app anyway. No messy app_info.xml files to worry about. If an upgrade is needed it can happen automatically.
I hope some of these suggestions are helpful to you.
Cheers,
Cheers,
Gary.
thank you both :) i was

thank you both :) i was reading about the increase and the wu quota,, hmm. welp. guess ill go to cc and read up on trux (since i dont remember where to get it) and akos's app..
didnt know it didnt need an app_info, thus why i was hesatant. now that i know there isnt one. think ill go with option number 3. thank you both! :)
