Running BOINC 6.4.5 under Vista Home Premium. Had a problem a while back about "daily quota of 2 results", which didn't correspond to my preferences. This cleared up and I was receiving WU's according to preferences, and everything was fine.
Now, I am consistently getting "Output file absent" on those WU's that go to completion. Furthermore I am now getting the "daily quota.." message while not seeing any tasks working in the Task page. I have reset, uninstalled and reinstalled, and nothing seems to make a difference. Can anyone help. I am crunching away on my XP machine with no problems. Both machines are under my account name, so I am bothered and bewildered, is my Vista Machine bewitched?
Sorry, hit the button twice.
Hoping you all have a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year.

Hi,
Do you have more than one ID, because you don't seem to be recieving tasks on this one, accoriding to your Computers belonging to Owner page.

The "daily quota" message is because the units are not being crunched to completion and are showing up as errors. This causes your daily quota of units available to crunch to go down. However once you start returning units that are okay your numbers will go back up quickly.

Well, to paraphrase: "Computer heal thyself." I have now received a boatload of WU's which seem to processing normally. I have done nothing to make this happen except to ignore the problem. Ain't science wonderful!!!

I now get the 2 quota message and all output files are absent. The error started when I was running 6.2.something and now I'm running 6.4.5. Throttling is at 100% and always has been and my number of processors to use is also 100%. I'm running XP Pro 64-bit with 2 gigs of ram(1 gig x2 sticks) and an AMD athlon dual core at 2.2 ghz with a 250 gig hard drive and an nvidia 7300 LE. Ignoring the problem is not making it go away. I tried reinstalling to no avail.

If you take a look at the full list of tasks for your host, you will see that (since Jan 20) all except the two most recent ones have errored out during computation. This has caused your daily quota to be reduced to one per core. If you click on any of the TIDs (Task IDs) shown there, you can get the full task details, including some idea of what is going wrong. In your case the error messages seem to be about "unhandled exceptions" (I didn't look at all that many) and the most likely cause is flakey hardware like RAM or CPU or PSU or motherboard. It could also be caused by excessive heat (when did you last clean your heat sink fins or is your fan running at the proper speed) or over ambitious overclocking although not in your case if the default speed is 2.2GHz.
Cheers,
Gary.
