That is definitely not what I get! Topics are generally in order, except that the most interesting ones (minutes ago, hours ago) are scattered about the page between those that are days old.

What's the problem? I've set my Message threadlist to Most recent reply first!

In the forum preferences on your account page on the website, there are two preferences called "Message threadlist" and "Message posts". Did you set each one and if so, did you hit the "Update Info" button at the bottom of the page?

You didn't by any chance hit the "Reset preferences" button at the top of the page by mistake did you?

Cheers,
Gary.

Don't recall, but that is academic, since whenever I look at the forum preferences, they are as specified in the original post.

No.

Problem Solved! You also have to tick the square besides the text Do not reorder sticky posts, whatever stcky posts are (No help from the BOINC site that I can find).

Sticky posts are messages that are "stuck" or "pinned" to the top of the board, no matter how old they are, because an Admin has determined that some information of importance is contained therein. Whether the information in an old sticky post is still important is sometimes a moot point :).

I'm guessing that the six old sticky posts that exist in this particular message board, are the very ones you were complaining about in your initial message. They are designed to stay at the top of the list and once you get used to them being there, it's not usually a problem as all the new ordinary messages follow on immediately after them.

The sticky posts are easily recognised as their icon (a page of text) has a push pin in the top right hand corner. This is visibly different from the icon used for an ordinary message thread which has new posts in it. This icon is also a (slightly larger) page of text but it has a folded top right hand corner - no push pin. I'm guessing that you might not be seeing these icons. If you don't see what I'm describing, go to your forum preferences and tick "Jump to first new post in thread automatically" and then refresh the message board lists. You should then have icons beside those messages that have new posts that you haven't previously seen. If you like this behaviour, try unticking the option to reorder the sticky posts and let them return to their natural place at the top of the list.

The recent posts that contain new messages will now be very easy to find.

EDIT: Just be aware that there is no icon for threads that contain no new posts so you might have to wait for a new post in a thread you have already read in order to see the "page of text with folded corner" icon. This icon will appear in the blank space to the left of the thread title when the thread contains a new post.

Cheers,
Gary.
