Just installed an iptables firewall with ports 22, 80 and 443 open. Are there any other ports that einstein@home or boinc require?
Thanks,
Eric
For communication between its own parts (boinc, boincmgr, boinccmd) TCP port 31416 is used.
UDP 31416 ??
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

No, as far as I know, RPCs only use TCP ports. But then it never hurts to allow the UDP ports as well.
My mistake. I remember now, it's BoincView ( to the OP, this is third party software for managing 'farms' ) that uses UDP 31416 ...
Thank you Mike and Ageless. I have opened up all ports withing localhost. That should do it for internal communication. I will post if I end up having to open up any more external ports.
Thanks again,
