I had a BOINC account with Team USAF for a few years. Then I suspended the account for over a year and can now no longer access that account. I have made a new account with a different user name and email address in order to restart my work with Einstein @ Home. Is there any way to collect my credit from my previous account and close out the old account? To date I have been unable to even delete the old account even though I would lose my old credits. Does anyone have some suggestion to help?

Why not just log into that old account and change the user name and email address, and leave your old team?

Why? All you need is your old email address or the authenticator string from the account_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.xml file in the old BOINC data directory. (Don't post that string here.)
BOINC accounts can neither be merged nor deleted.

I have tried to log in with the old user name and password to no avail. I've also tried to create a new password, still to no avail. It seems that I'm just stuck.

And what's about the authenticator method from the "forgot password" page (paragraph 2)?

Where have you done that? You can only make a new password when you're actually logged into the account.
On http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/get_passwd.php (the thing Gundolf is pointing at), you can first fill in the email address of the old account. If it's still an active email address and you can get onto it, a link will be sent to it with which you can log in during a 24 hour window after requesting the link. If it doesn't arrive in the main inbox, do check the SPAM box(es).
The other option you have there is to log in with the authenticator or account key. This key can be found in the account_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.xml file in your BOINC Data directory, of a computer that's still attached to Einstein with the old account. If none, then the key in the present one on the system you're now crunching with is the authenticator key for your present account. No need to go use that.
The email address is the UNIQUE identifier. There is no way you can have used it twice to register an account at Einstein, as Einstein will give a warning that the email address is already in use.

What exactly went wrong at these two attempts?
