Topic 226245

I have a gravity wave workunit on this machine which is running differently. Normally, running with a 4GHz i7 and the GPU in the graphics card, a work unit runs for around 15 minutes, they vary a little, but centre about there. This work unit has run for 11:25:53 increasing. I thought it might be "stuck" somewhere, but it was doing no harm, (for reasons outside the scope of this post), so left it to finish overnight. This morning, it is still there, but it is not "stuck". The percentage complete is increasing very slowly it was less than 1% last night, but this morning is currently 12.100%.

Just wondering about the GPU

Just wondering about the GPU memory size of 2GB.

GW WUs usually need more than 2GB, but a max of 4GB would do fine.

Maybe that's the problem.

Looking at my results, I've

Looking at my results, I've not had many Gravity Wave units, they do have longer run times, and my error work unit is one of these. Perhaps this type of unit has issues.

The unit I was talking about earlier is now showing 14.700% done.

I have "no new tasks" set.

... just de-select GW from

... just de-select GW from your profile (homr, generic ... whatever), then you can run the other applications.

GR units will do fine with GPU <2GB.

The Einstein website is not

The Einstein website is not like regular BOINC projects. Where is that setting?

The work unit is currently showing 19.000% complete.

I'll try to show you the

I'll try to show you the way.  I'll stsart at the basics, so have patience!

PART 1 of 2 - to select the projects/applications available for running:

  "LOGON" to Einstein (obvioudly),

     select "account",

        select "preferences",

select "project" (the currently active "venue" is shown,

to change it scroll down to the bottom,

click on "show comparison view" located on the right side,

then you see all four available "venues",

scroll down to the bottom and click on "edit" of the "venue" you want to use/change,

select "project" (usually already set as default),

scroll down to the "applications" list,

then select with a checkmark which one(s) you want,

then scroll down and click on "save changes".

Done!

Part 2 of 2 - to see which "venue" is active for this PC:

     After "LOGON"

          select "account",

then "dashboard" (usually already set as default),

under the list of "computers" click on "more",

now you can see under "location" which "venue" is active for each PC,

in this list of PCs select the one you want to edit by clicking on its "details" option,

you now have a description of your PC, where at the bottom you can change the "location"

                      to which "venue" you want.

DONE!

Well, Ihope I didn't miss out on something ...

Okay, I believe I have turned

Okay, I believe I have turned the gravitational work units off for all locations. The one I have, I'll leave it running, it has notched up 19+ hours of crunching. I'll see what happens. It is a nuisance, I'd been trying to clear the work from this machine for a memory upgrade.

Thanks for the help.

Just abort it. Your PC has

Just abort it.

Your PC has enough main memory.

Your graphic card is to "small". It has only 2GB, but GW needs more than 2GB.

4GB card would do fin on GW.

GR needs only 2GB.

I have no idea why the task is runnung so long, usually when Gpu is too small the

task fails. So it seems to be a another problem.

Maybe some other posters can help you.

2 GB GPU is not the

2 GB GPU is not the problem. 2 GB cards can run GW tasks fine these days. Your computer has " AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) ". That is simply too old AMD GPU generation. GW does not support that chip at all. Progress that you see is placebo. Task will never finish. AMD Radeon HD series cards can only run GR tasks.

It supported the crunching of those two.....

Those were CPU tasks so they were run by your i7-6700K.

GW GPU tasks for your host are 'Gravitational Wave search O3 All-Sky #1 v1.01 () windows_x86_64'.
