Topic 188821

I recently joined this project(also am doing climate and seti), and allocated 5% work time. My machine downloaded H1_1067.4__1067.9_0.1_T24_Test02_2. It been on my machine (3.06 P4 1G mem) for over 24 hours now but has yet to do anything with it. On the messages tab it says that it starts but stops working on it after 1 minute with nothing done. Any ideas?

Not Processing WU

Ever tried to give it more work time ?
E@H WU takes on avarage 7 hrs. for your CPU, if I'm not mistaken, with only 5% it will take awfull long and is more idle then working.

As I have it figured, 5% comes out to a little over an hour a day, at least that is what seti@home runs at that setting so I figured that would be good to start.

5% is indeed just over an hour a day (1.2 hours actually). However, depending on the speed of your computer this means that you'll run over the Einstein@Home deadline. Einstein currently has a deadline of 1 week, meaning you must return the WU within a week to be gauranteed credit (you may get credit when returning it late depending on how many others have returned the WU already). 7 hours (1 hour a day for 1 week) is a pretty short processing time for Einstein...

While it's true that 5% may

While it's true that 5% may turn out to be just a bit too little time for it to finish a result before the deadline, that still doesn't address the issue of why it's only running for 1 minute intervals.

Only running 1 minute would prevent it from showing any progress, as it likely never even hits a checkpoint, but it should be running for longer than that when it does start.

First I would suggest that you check your settings in your account preferences for the time interval for changes between projects. The default is 60 minutes, so if you haven't changed that, when einstein does start it should run for 1 hour then move on to another project. At 5%, it would just be a very long time (about 19 hours) before it would come back to einstein for another hour. There are a few variables that can trigger a project change before it would be time for one by the wall clock, but in general it should be getting roughly 1 hour about every 20 hours.

If your preferences are still at the default, try manually pausing seti and cpdn, leaving einstein as the only active project for a few minutes, and see if it makes any progress on the work unit that way. If it progresses that way, it's most likely just a matter of the debt share not getting itself sync'd yet. If the work unit still won't progress when it's the only active project, then there's another problem somewhere.

Thanks for the input so far.

Thanks for the input so far. I appreciate it. Currently the switch time is set at the default time of 60 minutes. When I get home I will try pausing CPND & Seti to see if that doesn't get Einstein kick started. Should that fail, are there any other suggestions?

Thanks
