I'm an old man with no real computer knowlege. Some tasks have downloaded but always show download error and disappear when I try to update...in the meantime I'm told no more tasks available since I already have my daily limit.
Of greater concern, when I try to update Einstein, my Norton anti-virus reports either a "swizzer" or "lop" and quarantines it.
I'm not having this problem with SETI or Climate Prediction Net.
With my computer doing no work for Einstein, I might just as well drop out of this project...

No work since outage

Must add the following: This all began after the recent outage...

That has to be a false positive, as else there would be many people here screaming about this. You will have to take it up with Norton, ask them what's up with this behaviour. Or just make sure you do not actively scan the BOINC and BOINC Data directories and sub-directories.
RE: RE: Of greater

Not sure what you mean by "scanning Data directory and sub-directories" so have decided to hire a computer tech this Sunday to take care of things...computers probably need servicing anyways!
Thanks for trying to help me!

Glad to see I'm not alone! I quote from another's thread: "Has anyone had their AnitVirus product detect the work unit as Suspicious.Swizzor?
Einstein@Home tried to download new work and each time, Symantec detected Suspicious.Swizzor and took action.
This occurred on Hierarchical S5 all-sky GW search #5 3.01: h1_0868.00_S5R4__1191_S5R5a_0.
I just aborted the job. It wasn't like the download was successful, anyway, with Symantec detecting a virus in it."
RE: RE: RE: RE: Of

Same thing just happened again here with 4 units..."Download failed" Will wait to see if Norton responds.
Hope my computer tech can provide me with some answers tomorrow, for this is frustrating!

There really is no virus to worry about - otherwise the whole project would have well and truly been shut down by now. So it is quite safe, as a temporary measure, for you to disable virus scanning in the BOINC data folder until new definitions are available. Do you update your anti-virus software on a regular basis? I would have thought that this issue would have been resolved by Symantec fairly promptly.
I posted basic instructions in the other thread. Just be aware that those instructions came from Symantec and probably related to a particular version of their product and for a particular type of scan regime. If you are doing something a bit different (with how your AV works) the instructions might be slightly different so you might have to explore in whatever "control centre" that the product uses.
Cheers,
Gary.
RE: RE: Same thing just

OK, and thanks for that! I do keep my Norton anti virus updated (on a daily basis). And, yes, yesterday's downloads did show another virus...a lop (usually its been either a lop or swizzer).
My tech-guy will be here in 3-4 hours and I'll show him this these messages...
Maybe he can also suggest why Hierarchial S5 all-sky GW search #5.3.01 downloads are all failing (I note again, my computer has done no work for Einstein since the last outage). Maybe it'll be as simple as reconfiguring my AV somehow...he did mention something about a filter on the phone...
I have him on a permanent retainer basis...he normally comes out once every 4-6 weeks to service my computers, so this time it'll be a bit earlier than usual (no problem!)
If the problem does persist, I'll detach and find another project that appeals to me (I do like to keep three projects running 24/7...+ more when I shortly add several more computers).

Pleased to report that everything is working fine now! Finally received units with now download failure and computer now processing and reporting units with no further problems. ^knocks on wood*
Good to hear that! Happy

Now I may be a bit weird, but

Now I may be a bit weird, but can you tell what you (or your computer tech wizard) did to alleviate this, so this information can go forward to helping others with the same problem in the future?
