I cannot see the screensaver. I just installed BOINC on a new laptop - old laptop died. Same settings, downloaded work, just no screensaver.

Looking at my computer list, my new laptop shows up twice?

It wouldn't be such a big deal except that at work we are supposed to have some sort of screensaver running to show our PC is not off (long story - don't ask).

I have read through some threads that say there is a problem with ATI video cards - that's what I have, but I also read it should be fixed with the new release.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you selected the BOINC screensaver using the Windows "Display" Control Panel? If you are talking about the Einstein Beta application (which fixes the ATI problem), you need to download and install it in your BOINC/Einstein folder. You can find the link to the Beta application under More Information on the E@H home page. Just follow the instructions provided.

You may be encountering the Einstein 4.79/BOINC 4.45 graphics bug. Usually the graphics bug ends work units with "Client error" messages but, in your case, it may just be keeping Einstein graphics from being displayed. You should check into using the Beta Application (see link under More Information on the E@H home page). The Beta Application fixes the "graphics bug" (most of the time). I would also add that it is very stable. I have been using it for about 2 1/2 months with no problems.

No screensaver : Still no

No screensaver : Still no display and another bug : the calculations run all the time as a background task despite my preferences being set-up otherwise. I guess I'll just have to wait until a more stable version is available. Thanks for your response anyway. Happy Thanksgiving to all US Boinc users !

After you set up and saved

After you set up and saved your preferences through the web-page (here), did you then open up Boinc Manager, go to its Projects tab, select the Einstein@Home project and hit the Update button on the left?

I use Boinc 5.2.7 on my WinXP

I use Boinc 5.2.7 on my WinXP system (with an ATI Radeon 9100) and I have started the Einstein@home-project today and I also have the problem that there is no screensaver visible - in screensavermode the only thing I can see is the floating Boinc-logo. Does anyone know a solution, is it a known problem, too, like it was mentioned here before?

Try the Beta app (see the link under More Information on the EAH home page).

I had to reset the preferences but your suggestion cleared the problem. Thank you for the tip !

Note : I still dont't have the screensaver visible, only the floating Boinc logo, Beta version or not. I reverted to the latest 5.2.6. version since then. As I can read, I am not the only one to have the issue.

Hi all. Just installed the

Hi all. Just installed the lastest version of BOINC. Still not happy about how it works with SetiAtHome. The old client was much better, easier to use, and more stable. Any how, I'm having this same problem with E@H on my system. Single processor w/hyperthreading desktop with ATI Radeon x550. All I get when the scr runs is the BOINC floating sign with the current process.
