I have had several tasks recently that run for a while then apparently stop, and don't run again even if I leave it for hours. I have aborted 2 in the last few days, and I have another now, stuck at 2.976% since yesterday. Task manager shows CPU usage at 0 for the task. The BOINC status is "running".

Is there any info in the Tasks Details of the aborted WU's. If you could post a link to one or all of the WU's or copy and paste here any info in them.

Have you tried exiting BOINC and restarting BOINC to see if that has an effect? If this is a multiprocessor system and if so, do you have the setting in Preferences Use at most X% cpu time set at anything less than 100%? If so you should set that back to 100%, since BOINC has issues with that setting and muti cpu systems.

I didn't expect it, but after

I didn't expect it, but after restarting the computer, both running einstein tasks showed 'computation error':

Maybe that's another problem? Anyway I hope that's the information you wanted.

Not really. We need a link to the task in question on your "Tasks for user" page. You reach it through the "Your results" button on the Tasks tab of BOINC Manager.

The easiest way for those who want to help you would be to unhide your computers in your preferences (Your account > Einstein@Home preferences).

Ok, I see in the WU's with errors " -119
MD5 check failed"

You should go to Computing preferences and change "Skip image file verification?
Check this ONLY if your Internet provider modifies image files (UMTS does this, for example).
Skipping verification reduces the security of BOINC." to yes and see if that helps.

Update: the "no progress"

Update: the "no progress" isn't an Einstein problem, it is Boinc. I activated another application and the same thing happens. Two tasks run for awhile (dual core CPU), then one task stops and does nothing. I have CPUs set to 100%, CPU time set to 100%, computing allowed while computer is in use. I don't know what else might affect it.

I've unhidden my computers and it appears you've already had a look. Thanks.

I don't think my internet provider (Pathway) modifies image files but who knows? I can give it a try.

Hopefully this will have a positive effect. There are other options though if not.

Some possible fixes, ordered from least destructive to most destructive.
1) Restart the client and computer. No damage but limited chance of success.

2) Reset the project. Will kill any work you have downloaded for this project. You would want to try and empty your cache before hand.

3) Detach and reattach. While you are detached make sure there are no files related to the offending project left on your disk. Will kill any work you have on hand for this computer and create a new host record, again you would want to try and empty your cache before hand.

4) Clean reinstall. Uninstall BOINC. Delete any BOINC related files left. Reinstall BOINC. This will kill all work from all projects and generate new host records for all projects. Same as above about cache.

There's also this info on the error.
