no new work

That means you've trashed enough work units that the server is throttling back how many work units you can download per day.

Your computers are hidden so we can't tell you what's going on.

Click on my user name to see what information everyone can see. Nothing sensitive is on there.

Also if you can copy/paste from the message tab/window (depending on what view of BOINC you're looking at) we can look at those too. Include the start up messages (the first 10 or so lines) and a portion where there is information on errors.

I have allowed this computer (aandmr) to be viewable...i'm getting constant MD5 checksum errors on this computer; my faster computer has no such issues however.

I'm running seti and rosetta without any issues.

I moved this thread over to the problems section (instead of Cafe Einstein)

Try to reset Einstein on that computer. It is possible that your public key got corrupt. A project reset should fix that.

If it doesn't, try a detach from Einstein, then re-attach.

This is a hard one... let's see, you can do the following, in this order:

1) perform a check of your harddisk(s), e.g. using scandisk, including a surface check.
If this doesn't help:

2) Test your internet connection: point your browser to

http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/download/3e9/earth_05_09

and tell us what you see (should be human readable, 2.745.667 Bytes , lots of floating point numbers)

If this doesn't help:

3) un-install and then re-install BOINC

If this doesn't help:

Well, no idea what else to try ... :-/

Good luck,

Good luck,

BRM

1. no hdd errors found
2. human readable numbers, no issue.
3. uninstalled, reinstalled boinc...

no difference..

Another thing to try is to

Another thing to try is to run your cache dry on the other projects, set all projects in BOINC Manager to No New Tasks. Upload and report all results when done.

Exit BOINC.
Navigate to your BOINC directory and copy your account_*.xml files to a safe location. Then uninstall BOINC, delete the whole directory and all sub-directories.

(If you want to, run a scandisk and defrag routine here)

Now reinstall BOINC, preferably to another hard drive/partition or just another directory. When you get the attach to wizard, cancel, exit BOINC, copy the account_*.xml files back to the (new) BOINC directory, restart BOINC.

See what that does. At least it makes sure that any public key (stored in client_state.xml) got deleted completely.

Very Strange.

The expected MD5 checksum is correct, I just md5sum'ed my copy of that file. The public key would not influence the mere MD5 checksum, would it?
So either the received file is faulty, the MD5 code is broken, the file gets corrupted on disk (unlikely that this happens to all the files),...

My guess is that actually the file get's downloaded manipulated, maybe there's a caching http-proxy that somehow inserts extra spaces or linefeeds or whatever to text-files ???

Can you download the file that I gave the URL to above and send it to me via e-mail (as attachment) for inspection? ( hb[at]tickuhr.de ). I'm very curious what the MD5 checksum of that file will be.

EDIT:

If you are using a firewall which includes web-content filtering (software that removes stuff from downloaded web-pages like malware, pornography, ads ..), try to disable this feature. Maybe the content filter has a bug and inserts or truncates some extra stuff from downloaded Einstein files. Unlikely, but possible.

Can you download the file that I gave the URL to above and send it to me via e-mail for inspection? ( hb[at]tickuhr.de ). I'm very curious what the MD5 checksum of that file will be.

This is very curious indeed. The OP mentioned that he had another box that was behaving normally. On the assumption that both boxes are using the same internet connection, presumably we can rule out the connection itself?

Also in one of his earlier posts he said that Seti and Rosetta were not having a problem. I presume his BOINC client would be verifying checksums for other projects so if the others are not having problems the MD5 code must be OK??

If both his machines are on a LAN, presumably he could quickly copy the sun and earth files from the good setup to the setup that is having problems (plus the executables too) and see if they are accepted as having the correct checksums after stopping and restarting BOINC on the problematic machine.

EDIT: Of course this doesn't get him some data to chew on but at least it should narrow down where the problem is being introduced.

Cheers,
Gary.
