I got error message: Scheduler request failed: Couldn't resolve host name.
Any ideas?
Btw -- It started after I changed my Mac24 (10.5) HD and restored all from Time Machine backup. Everything but Boinc works fine...

How would an attach be possible, if the host name can't be resolved?
I'd check firewall(s) proxy settings and DNS service.

OK, I've looked around in net
)
OK, I've looked around in net and tried several recommended things:
1. I completely reinstalled Boinc (also remove files from "/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data" and "/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/BOINC Manager Preferences)". No help.
2. Went back to HTTP 1.0 (wrote cc_config.xml file to "/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data":
1
). No help.
3. Downgraded Boinc to 6.10.21. No help.
4. I also reconfigured log (file cc_config.xml is like that:

It gives me such messages:

I is NOT my network connection problem, because it works fine with other applications (browsers, torrents, ftp etc) and I also can ping einstein.phys.uwm.edu (both name and IP 129.89.61.70).
BTW interesting thing happens, when I try to connect to project via IP -- it even asks my username and pw, but still fails after that:

Sun Mar 13 14:10:39 2011 BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration.
So it seems to be some DNS problem and I even found some (not very useful) hint about curl versions.
Anyway, I have wasted half of my Sunday for that idiotic problem and thats enough. I will go back to flying toasters, until better men will have something to say :-P
Reboot your Router, Claggy
)
Reboot your Router,
Claggy
I've tried that too. No
)
I've tried that too. No help.
(And I have checked firewall setting, router port settings etc etc and I am out of options.)
You said you restored
)
You said you restored everything from backup. Have you tried reinstalling BOINC, so your permissions are all correct, and made absolutely sure you allowed it through your firewall (again) (BOINC binary needs to be allowed on TCP and UDP ports 80 and 443)?
By the way, you never said which version of BOINC you're using, but if it's still that 6.10.17, consider upgrading to the latest more stable version of 6.10.58, available from the download page. It won't fix this problem, but it will have lots of bug-fixes over the version you're using. (edit: remembering that the BOINC developer for the Mac has made lots of changes for permission between these versions. So do upgrade in the least.)
See also http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X, in the least for the AddRemoveUser tool. In case that what you have is a permissions problem.
well... please, how can I
)
well... please, how can I check, that boinc is allowed to use 80 and 443? As far as I know, 80 is HTTP and 443 is HTTPS default port, so if traffic would not be allowed, I could not use internet at all... (?)
Yes, I put 1TB HD to my MAC (instead of 240gB), and restored everything, and everything else works fine. System preferences ->Security ->Firewall says Allow all incoming connections. I also check router port allocation table (btw, before it worked fine without that). Now I reinstalled boinc 6.10.58. The same.
What can I do more?
I asked the BOINC developer
)
I asked the BOINC developer for the Mac and he told me that you're at least now fixed for the "couldn't resolve host name" bug that has plagued BOINC for some time. A definitive fix went in at 6.10.45, so with 6.10.58 you're 'protected' as well.
I don't know how you check whether or not programs are going out through the firewall on a Mac, other than to check in Network System preferences. It's here you can also try to use different DNS servers, just to check that it isn't that. Set to use, for example, the Google DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Well, I tried Google DNS - no
)
Well, I tried Google DNS - no success. Bwt, I'm using my service provider DNS (194.126.115.18, 194.126.101.34) and those works fine.
BUT -- I added to /etc/hosts line "129.89.61.70 einstein.phys.uwm.edu" and at first it seemed to work. Anyway, in some moment (boinc said "running benchmark" I believe) it tried to connect to boinc.berkeley.edu and :-(
So I added to /etc/hosts line "128.32.18.189 boinc.berkeley.edu"... and boinc tried to connect to einstein-dl4.phys.uwm.edu ("/download" etc). Pathetic... hosts file isn't DNS, I can't add every needed line there.
So it seems that it's not a port problem, in some reason boinc can't connect with DNS. (Actually, I must read little more to understand, what it really means...)
Back in the beginning -- It's
)
Back in the beginning -- It's simply and clearly Boinc's fault, more specifically cURL (c-ares) bug. (http://www.mail-archive.com/c-ares@cool.haxx.se/msg00527.html) Some year ago many people had that problem and I'm unfortunately recreated that in some way (I of course tried recommendation in that article -- DNS Server: 68.94.156.1, Search Domains: sbcglobal.net -- no help). I completely disabled IP6.
Summary -- 1) all other network protocols work, I can use 3 different browsers, FTP, torrent, Skype & windows RDP.
2) I completely reinstalled Boinc (6.10.58).
3) I have checked every possible settings & I have tried every approach found in internet.
4) Seems, that I would make Boinc work, when I could write every needed DNS address resolve to /etc/hosts...
