I was happily crunching einstein@home with an app_info.xml file and seeing graphics in both hierarchical and ABP1 apps. Then a message appeared inviting me to delete that file if I wanted new units. I obediently did this by renaming the file to file.old. Now I can see the celestial sphere rotating in ABP1 but not in hierarchical searches.
The stderrgfx.txt file in slots says:
GLUT: Fatal Error in einstein_S5R6_1.01_graphics_i686-pc-linux-gnu: visual with necessary capabilities not found.
QMC graphics work well. CPDN crash.My SETI app has no graphics since it is an optimized one.
My Linux is SuSE 11.1.

no graphics in hierarchical searches
)
I personally think that using graphics of any kind reduces the speed of task crunching.
I just hit my pcs with new tasks when neccessary. I then log off and let the Boinc Service do the rest.
After switching off power to the screen I walk.

I don't run graphics as a screensaver. But when I hit the graphics button I like to see something moving, proving that the app is working.
That sounds like the problem

That sounds like the problem as was described for windows. See this thread

Interesting.
Could you post the output of xdpyinfo (in a terminal on the same screen) here?
[edit]Does one of the einstein_S5R5_1.0?_graphics... of http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/download work for you, or do they all fail?[/edit]

Hm. Looks like the HierarchicalSearch screensaver requires a 24 Bit visual. Never occurred to me.

I have installed VirtualBox to run Solaris for a period of testing SETI under Solaris. I remember it asked me to switch to 24 bit but then it worked the same.
