Hi!

Does anybody know?

That's nothing - I've got

62662349 475717 28 Dec 2006 8:32:53 UTC 31 Dec 2006 16:58:43 UTC Over Success Done 4,119.22 12.26 pending

You can't earn credit on your own. This is a collaboration exercise - the same work has to be done by another participant, and the result checked, before any credit is awarded.

In my example above, my partner/collaborator has failed to return their share of the work by the deadline set. So the Einstein server is automatically going to send it again, to someone else, and hopefully this time it'll get finished. When it does, and assuming it checks out, I should get credit then.

So you haven't 'lost' credit - it's just been delayed for a while. It'll come through eventually.

Just at the moment, you may see more 'pending' credit than usual, because of the recent server problems - a lot of machines with the recommended version of BOINC don't even try to report work for a week if they have problems connecting during an outage. Altogether I've got almost 1,500 credits pending! But they'll all sort themselves out eventually.

Just so others know, there is

Just so others know, there is a nice FAQ that answers many of these questions. One example that works for this thread is: "Why has my result been 'pending' for a week?"

The answer is:

Quote:

The credits are pending because two other machines have not yet completed the same work, and so it can't be validated yet. Don't worry: the BOINC scheduler will send that work to other machines (and keep trying if they don't do the work) until the same work has been done by several other machines. This can typically take a week or ten days, or sometimes even a bit longer. Just be patient.

The fact that you have pending credit proves that you have completed a result within the deadline. Don't worry about how long it takes for the required extra two successful results to appear before validation can take place. Provided that your result is valid, you'll get credit for it. Pending credits are like money in a bank savings account. It may take some time before you can withdraw them, but they will eventually pay off.

[BA with some help from the message boards!]

Just figured maybe more questions could be answered by reading the FAQ.

Pooh, Good point, and well

Pooh,

Good point, and well worth mentioning, but in this case the FAQ answer is slightly wrong - the credit is pending because one other machine has not yet completed the same work. The quorum changed at the beginning of the S5 run in mid-June 2006, and the FAQ hasn't caught up yet! Similarly a couple of entries down, talking about high/low credit awards - that one's been partially updated, but it then goes on to contradict itself!

Now is not the time to divert resources to a general overhaul of the FAQs - nursing the server to the end of the run, and then getting started on S5R2, are much more important tasks. But once that transition has settled down, it might be worth putting it on the 'to-do' list?

Maybe that would be something

Maybe that would be something for volunteers, at least part of the job?
