I am a Newbie here, was doing SETI when they took it out from under me, so I decided to do Einstein.

I screwed around with Project prefs, using Generic. I changed "Run CPU versions of applications for which GPU versions are available: " from YES to NO, and started getting lots (unbounded, seemingly) of WUs for 2.07. I then changed it back to YES, where it is now, but it's still sending me lots of additional work, in the hundreds now.

WHAT can I do to stop this?

IO aborted the excessive WUs, but they are getting resent to me as "lost" WUs

Must I reset the project to stop this. or what?

Thanks!

Reduce your cache settings

Reduce your cache settings down to 0.2 day and 0.01 additional days.  Either use that for your global cache settings across all projects or set up a venue or location for your hosts with that cache level for your Einstein hosts to attach to.

Einstein has always had an issue of sending way too much work to hosts that they can't possibly finish before deadline because of the older BOINC server software they are committed to use.

Yes, but that would be global

Yes, but that would be global for all projects attached to the host in the BOINC Manager.

Best would be to set it at Einstein under Project Preferences for which applications you want to run and under Compute Preferences for how you want to run the hosts.

Setup the Home location with

Setup the Home location with the new lower cache levels and then at Einstein on your Computers list, change the location to Home and do an Update in the Manager to pick up the new location change for the hosts.

Then the next scheduler connection will see the new reduced cache levels and only ask for 17280 seconds of work in the work request.

You can see what your work request is for each host by clicking on the hot link on the Computer Details page labelled

"Last time contacted server"

That will print out the scheduler work request and you should see the number of seconds of work requested and the server working out the locality scheduling for the host and the applications and tasks it sees fit to send you.
