I poked around in my account manager and could not find an obvious way to stop receiving new work units while still completing and reporting the ones I already have. I need to switch out operating systems so I can RMA the drive I'm currently using for EAH. Would it be possible to just port the whole program to a different drive, or should I look for a way to do as I suggested first? The operating system I'm currently using is Vista x64. Until my RMA gets back I'll be using Vista x86. I'm using version 6.2.18.

The button you want is in the BOINC Manager program running on your computer.

Click on 'Advanced View', and you'll see a window with a number of tabs. Select the first one ('Projects'). Now select each of the projects that you run, in turn - Einstein, obviously, should be there, but you may have others.

The third button down the left hand side of the window should say 'No New Tasks'. Click it (once for each project), and you'll achieve what you want - an orderly run-down of the work you have at the moment, but nothing extra downloaded from the project. You can double-check by looking at the 'Status' column for each entry on that projects tab (extreme right - you may have to scroll the display to see it): it should say "Won't get new tasks" after you've clicked the button.

Thanks. I see it now. I feel a little retarded not seeing it before. What is the best way for me to temporarily move my EAH project to a different drive given the fact that I'm using a x64 client now and want to use Vista x86 for a while? Can I just install a x86 client on the new, temporary drive and not worry that all my stats will be lost?

  • * Completely stop BOINC and confirm stopped ( eg use Task Manager)
    * Uninstall BOINC but don't do any other deleting
    * Move the residual BOINC data folder in its entirety (and the programs folder if it still exists) to the new desired locations
    * Reinatall BOINC making sure to specify the changed locations for programs & data on the different drive
    * Restart BOINC

Your task(s) in progress should restart from where they left off before the move.

Caveat: I've deliberately stayed with 5.10.45 for my own crunching and have never used BOINC 6.x.x. I do know there are separate programs and data folders so both may need to be shifted when using the above procedure. I've used the above procedure many times for 5.x.x and am quite confident it will work for 6.x.x as well. Just be careful with file permissions and file ownership issues - ie make sure the same Windows user is doing the moving as was used for the original install.

Cheers,
Gary.
