Hi folks,
now my new PC is finally here and I can't wait to get it up and running (and crunching, of course) but I'm experiencing a problem with my GFX drivers. It's an nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS and the recommended drivers would be standard ForceWare drivers afaik. But these won't work, although I tried 3 different versions. The setup starts, then exits with the message that no compatible hardware was found. The card is recognized correctly in the BIOS and seems to run normal under standard Windoze drivers. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is, or what drivers I could use alternatively?

I doubt this is the right place for your question....
What OS are you're running? If it's a Linux flavor, you'd better check that site. Or try to get help from one of their mailing lists or message boards. Over the whole, Linux people are quite helpful (if it's a non-standard issue...)
Another suggestion, if you're going to work with Linux, is to try a LiveCD. If that runs well, check its configs and copy the appropriate part. I'd recommend Knoppix. I can give you some help on getting the right info, if you need it...

What driver does Windows think is driving the card at the moment? If it's partly identified it and is loading some 'compatible' driver, you may need to un-install that first and get the machine running as if it has a plain vanilla VGA card before you try the setup. (I don't know the GeForce 7600: the suggestion comes from the advice given when installing Matrox cards).
Alternatively, you could try visiting Windows Update (you'll need that for the security patches, of course!) and doing a 'Custom' search for updates: optional hardware drivers sometimes appear here, and might be an alternative route.

Anyway, you said you've got the standard driver working. Have you uninstalled that one? If I recall, I've had similar problems as previous poster said. Couldn't find further info for you, just that there seems to be some unified driver... And that you should uninstall previous driver installs.

Thanks for trying to help. The standard driver I mentioned is just the built-in thingie that treats everything like a normal VGA card... so I don't think that causes the problems.

Did you innstall chipset drivers? Your motherboard should come with a CD containing various drivers. Usually these CDs will autostart so it will kinda install itself if you click OK a few times =) After install and reboot you can try the GFX card drivers again.

Some of the distributed drivers don't support all NVidia cards although they can be made to support most cards. If you'll go to Guru3d.com you can find many versions of the NVidia drivers that have been modified to support all the commonly available hardware. These are safe to use, even though they have been modified, only the .inf file has been modified to report the different hardware, the actual drivers are the same as supplied from NVidia.
Go to the Forceware Drivers link found in the right column about halfway down the page. You can also read, in the forum, about user experience with any particular driver. I find that forum useful to determine if a particular driver is really good or really bad or just something to ignore till the next driver comes out.
I've just looked at some recent drivers from Guru3D and they all support the 7600 series. All of these should work: NV91.28, NV91.31, NV91.33, NV91.45 and NV91.47, I'm using the NV91.28 which is a beta but is the most stable of the recently released drivers. There are reports that the NV91.47 is also a good driver and it does support the 7600GS.
