my outrage

Got up this morning around 7.  Wanted to check on a couple of rebuild towers to see how they were doing.  Thought I would use ssh to "get to them".  no go.  spent the next 4 hours trying out to figure out why I could not reach them or the Pi 4.  All had worked yesterday.  Today however I noticed that one PC could not connect to the uverse wifi gateway network.  Another PC had a wifi addr issued outside of my  address range.  Wifi extenders worked fine but these had manually configured IP addrs.  So I manually entered an IP adddr on one of these PCs that could not connect  and it could establish a wifi connection once again.  Seems like DHCP on the Uverse gateway went on vacation.  Called Uverse support.  2 hours.  The guy on the other end knew his stuff.  Ran a bunch of tests. A major problem surfaced.  Tomorrow I get my new Uverse gateway.  I need a "puppy downer".  I am writing this on the laptop with the manually entered IP addr.

This will be my 2nd gateway/modem in two years.

Were you able to put manual ip's in the other machines too so at least you are online temporarily?

Just on a couple of critical ones.  I always keep hard copies of the uverse gateway configuration so setting up the new one should go reasonably well.  I will have to look capturing the gateway configuration in a file so that I can reload from that file in the event I get another uverse gateway.

If the "critical ones" don't need to be online 24/7 then you always plug and unplug the network cables using one pc at a time with the same settings. Essentially you would be using fixed ip addresses instead of dhcp  ones.

Waiting on the new gateway replacement.  It never arrived last Friday.  I called and was told my order would be completed by the 27th.  What!!!!!   I just want a gateway router replacement.  Was told I would get it on the 19th (today).  Stay tuned.

That's not very good customer service, I hope they will rebate the days you are without a 'working as advertised' one.

it arrived at noon today.  I

it arrived at noon today.  I was hoping that some network "names" would remain the same, but nooooooooooooooo.

I have been working since I received it but forgot to make some changes to the "new" names on some remote network cameras.  I feel like I have been "rode hard and put up wet".

So even if you did save the config file it wouldn't work next time? I'm glad it's there though!!
