My mostly completed WU lost some progress

I had about 4 hours left on my current WU and after putting by PC on standby I found 10 hours had been added to the remaining time, dropping the progress from about 70% to less than 50%. I will now miss my 4/11 deadline because I only spend limited time on my computer.

EPS,

You didn't mention exiting Boinc or putting it in "suspend" mode, or mention what Boinc/Einstein version combination you have, or what CPU and Operating System. Please give us this information so that we may analyse and find solution.

In the meantime, I suggest you allow it to keep crunching and see if the progress and To Completion figures start to converge with your expectations.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Michael

When your machine is on standby with BOINC still in memory, BOINC thinks that it has actually spent that time and has made no progress so it reevaluates what it thinks it will take to complete the work. BOINC is basically making a mistake which will commence to be rectified the moment you start crunching normally again. The 10 hours added will quickly melt away and your work will finish on time.

Rather than put your machine on standby, why don't you just allow BOINC to keep processing and use up those spare cpu cycles?

Cheers,
Gary.

I hadn't exit BOINC or put it in "suspend" mode. I was using BOINC version 4.45 but have since updated to 5.2.6 (to help prevent any other problems being caused) and Einstein 4.79.
My CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) Processor.
My Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition, Service Pack 4, (05.00.2195.00)
Also my preference for 'Write to disk' is set at 60seconds.

In reference to Gary's post, I had hoped that the additional hours would disappear as BOINC recalculated, however it seems that it decided to delete the progress as I'm still cruching the extra time.
