when einstein is active, mouse cursor disappears in
20 to 30sec. interval.
when einstein is active, monitor seems to be "white out" in every 20 to 30sec. interval
What OS, BOINC version are you running? Did you install BOINC as a service? Which
screensaver did you select? What are your BOINC preferences?
Please elaborate.
Michael
Same issue here. Hvery 5-10min browser 1)freezes for 5-15secs 2)blanks screen 3)redraws screen including any typing or clicking done during freeze (like part of this sentence)-- although for me it only appears to do this in my browser - I can switch to other programs no problem.
Specs: XPpro SP2, Firefox 1.5.0.1, BOINC 5.2.13 (no optimizer) not installed as service on the troubled box, The Einstein@Home Starsphere Screensaver (for einstein) - issue does not appear to occur during screen saver (but since it appears to only affect Firefox I wouldn't notice it then)
- also running seti@home but have seen no problems of this sort when running those WUs - BOINC Prefs are pretty generic (adjusted cache to 2 days) - currently no conflict with seti@home as I have no WUs for that project and cannot receive any at this time.
Is your video card driver up to date? (See this thread.)

Thanks, hadn't thought about that one since it happens when the E@H graphics aren't running. But I do see here that E@H does appear quirky with ATI drivers and I know I haven't updated in a while - never thought I'd be updating them for a DC project or then again to fix an issue NOT gaming related or to fix an issue CAUSED by a driver update that was needed for gaming- about 9mo ago I just got to where I was finally glad I had no display issues/artifacts and excellent FPS (so I could throttle them at a steady fast rate instead of having yo-yo rates) and not having installed anything new (except E@H) never thought about it.
Even though I'll give a try - still doesn't quite fit that only FireFox appears to be affected and only while an E@H WU is being crunched. While FF is paused/blanked I can work in other windows normally. I would think a vid driver issue would have more of a global effect on the whole sys. Launching FF during E@H crunching sometimes is delayed as well as if I had launched it right at the begining of one of these pause/blank outs.
Opera seems unaffected but I don't use it regularly so I'll test it when I get home and edit this post. I only use IE for Windows Updates so I have no idea if/how it may be affected.
If you have ATI graphics, please note that their newer driver packages, updated monthly, have since I think January of 2006 required the .NET framework. If you do not have the .NET installed and have no other compelling reason to use it, I believe that Dec 2005 ATI drivers should suffice. .NET is quite a download, but the standard complete ATI graphics bundle is no thimbleful either. :-)

They do. No problems with them December 2005 drivers for my Ati 9600 Pro, plus as an upshot, I don't have two CLI.exe's running taking up memory for the *&$%$%!! Catalyst Control Center only.
The CCC is overrated in my opinion. It doesn't do anything new that the old drivers couldn't do. Plus if Ati would really use .NET, they'd allow an update of the drivers without needing to uninstall the old ones, reboot, install the new ones, reboot and having to rebuold your desktop again...

Thanks for the tip! - Never did like .NET when it was installed before my last disk rebuild. As to the CCC installed it and the delivered drivers when I first got previous card (9500pro)- "ooo flashy!" but then I got troubles playing RCTW:ET - after much fiddling and swearing I found the Omega drivers over at OmegaDrivers.net and I've stuck with them ever since (except when I got my X800XL and tried stock drivers again (big mistake))- 4 MAJOR pluses with the Omegas 1)You don't have to uninstall previous drivers then run a driver cleaner before upgrading to next version 2)No CCC - just what you need - it works with the drivers but not recommended 3) Pre-Tweaked for gaming WITH stability and 4)You don't have to uninstall previous drivers then run a driver cleaner before upgrading to next version! -- I'll go have a look and see whats new over there, nice.... Omega 3.8.231 (based on Catalyst 6.3) just released 3/28/06 (gonna wait a bit though sometimes their new releases have a bug or two) - and .NET IS NOT NEEDED!!! -- Just might take these for a spin soon!
Update on my issues in this thread - its not happening tonight - go figure(i.e. no problems) I hate inconsistent bugs... don't think I'm doing anything different than I was last night or the previous times it happened....
Thanx for the tip on OmegaDrivers. I got a 9600 AIW on eBay 2 months ago, with no siftware, been trying to find the right combo on ATI's site, but have had no joy, no AIW features work, NONE! Maybe before I s**tcan it and re-install my 9600PRO, I'll give Omega a shot.
