Tried counting the number of entries for 4/22/13 and I think it's around 104, could be more, could be less. In the simple GRD screen it shows "Messages" and on that screen, it asks if I want copies pasted to the clipboard. Where's this clipboard and why on earth would I want to post stuff that's readily available by clicking "Messages."?
They say that by holding down certain keys, I can paste many at one time - but not the whole 104. I don't understand why there are no messages on 4/6/13, the day that I joined Seti/Einstein and then reduced it to only Einstein. And again, where would they be pasted and why?
The answer is probably simple and logical, but I don't get it. In a nutshell, where's the clipboard, who uses it, and why are there no messages for 4/6?

Messages/Clipboard
)
I assume you're talking about the messages in the Event Log in BOINC Manager?
In that case, the clipboard is in your operating system. It's the cache that holds the last copied text until you either reboot, or put new text into it. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipboard_%28computing%29
using shortcut keys such as CTRL+C will copy text to clipboard, while CTRL+V will paste it anywhere you can write it to.
Now, without trying to sound overly weary, but mind telling what you're doing, or trying to do, what you see, who 'they' are and more such things?
If you are talking about the messages in BOINC Manager (Event Log), these are written to stdoutdae.txt in your BOINC Data directory (or where boinc-client is) as well.
"They" is actually an "It."
)
"They" is actually an "It." When you highlight a message on simple GRD, the "copy" button can also be highlighted and it says "Copy the selected mesages, etc....You can select multiple messages by holding down...etc.)
What I'm trying to do is understand whet's going on. I'm not a technical person but I would like to understand the information available on the screens I check daily or more to see my progress.
Don't know who the "It" is that composed the sentences I described as having been done by "They."
You don't sound overly weary, not to worry.
I may sound that way though in asking what the devil "stdoutdae.txt" means. Nobody provided me with a "BOINC Data directory" or told me where the boinc-client is (probably hiding somewhere because he hates his name, Boinc.) I have a different understanding of "client" (situation similar to "sequester").
This is a learning experience. That is all I'm trying to do. I should go back to "Getting started."
Thanks, Jord
The BOINC Data directory can
)
The BOINC Data directory can be found at:
Windows 98/SE/ME: C:\Windows\All Users\BOINC\ or C:\Windows\Profiles\All Users\BOINC\ (*)
Windows 2000/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ (*)
Windows Vista/Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ (*)
Linux: wherever you unpack it/BOINC/
Macintosh OS X: /Library/Applications Support/BOINC/
Under all Windows versions it's a hidden directory, so either put the path to it directly into Windows Explorer, or instruct Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.
stdoutdae.txt is a log file, in which BOINC writes 2MB worth of messages, before it rotates the old log to stdoutdae.old and starts a new 2MB log. You can open either with Notepad.
