Finally the log was in and I forwarded it to one of the developers. I didn't see why it was getting that message. Let's wait and see if he does. It's possible he emails you directly.

Are we (you) going to post the solution to the problem now that your hard work with David's assistance has me up and working again?
In short, this problem is caused by a corruption of the global_prefs.xml file. Exit BOINC, delete the file, restart BOINC and contact your projects and you'll be up and running.

Yup. I wrote the FAQ on it. :-)
