Hey Dave,

When does your screen go blank?

When you start working again after the screen saver has been running? Randomly while you are working? When the screen saver starts up?

I'm assuming here that you aren't running a program that changes the screen resolution, like a game, or the screensaver isn't popping up and then getting reset. Right? A lot of monitors blank out the display when the sync signals from the graphics adapter change, until it detects the new settings and can sync properly.

However.....

If its the same thing that happened with one of my CRT's, it "blanked" the display because it lost sync with the video adapter and had to resync again.

How precise does your monitor give the horizontal and virtical sync frequencies? If it shows a decimal point or so check it and write down what it shows. Every time it unexpectedly blanks out, check it again and write down tne frequencies. Chances are they're changing slightly. Theres only two numbers - horizontal (in khz) and vertical (in Hz). Mine gives them to 2 decimal places and when it "blanked", the vertical frequency had changed by like .05.

If that happens, try setting a different refresh rate in your Display Settings. The monitor might be able to keep sync with the video signal with a different setting. Run the Display control panel applet, switch to the Settings tab and click the Advanced button. In the advanced settings, switch to the "Monitor" tab and select a different screen refresh rate.

It does not seem to care.At one point it would say "no signal". I turned multiple monitors off, and that took care of that, but when I minimize boinc and stat somthing else, it goes blank for two seconds with no report. If im try to get the screen saver to run it goes blank in it.s own window. I have the refresh rate at maximum. The only consitant think mis that it never does it when im in boinc as now for instance. when I leave boinc, then it does its blank thing. Nvidia say there is a newer driver out i have not tried that yet. thanks for your interest, and for give my spelling.

Dave,

My guess is that you're overstressing that MX video adaptor. With that new LCD monitor, you are probably using higher resolution (1280x960 or more?). The MX is a low-end adaptor, and high resolution settings and "Max" refresh rate is asking it to push too many pixels too fast.

I suggest you set the refresh rate to 60 or so. Unless you're playing fast-action games or something that requires quick screen updates, you'll never notice the difference with a medium refresh rate, but your MX sure will!

Hope this is of help to you.

Regards,

Michael

Thanks Walt, forgot to get back to you. the lcd does demand 3dec. places. It worked fine when i droped it back. There was another reply that indicated the mx is to old for this Monitor, I think he is right on as well. ill pop a few bucks for a beter Card. thanks all.

Dave,

I think perhaps I wasn't clear enough in my previous post. While the combo of high resolution and max refresh rate most likely is overstressing your MX card, the suggestion I was trying to make was for you to back off on one of the two settings, most effectively the refresh rate. If you aren't using the monitor to play very-fast-action games, a refresh rate of 50-60 will suit all your needs AND should be within the capabilities of the MX vidcard. If, however, you DO play the fast games and absolutely need the high refresh rate, then you'll probably have to upgrade the vidcard.

Playing fast games is not the strong suit of LCD monitors, period. For those games, a CRT is still (and will most likely continue for a long time to be) the better solution.

Hope this is of more help to you.

Regards,

Michael
