Well done Mikey! Now Murray
Well done Mikey!
Now Murray Gell-Mann was a giant. Rather like Einstein, Feynman, Fermi and others he was prodigious in so many ways. Vale Murray.
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

I'm willing to bet there are ALOT of people like that that most of us have never heard of but whose lifes work affects us in ways we have no clue about!! I was watching an ad on tv the other day with my son for the new show about debunking the Moon trip with a guy talking to an Astronaut saying that NASA only had the computing power of a toaster when they first landed on the Moon. My comment was you don't need computing power in a computer if you have the formulas and some dedicated people with pencils and slide rules!! The formulas don't change just because you use a computer, a computer just makes the calculations faster, meaning you have to trust the numbers you have instead of being able to generate new ones 1000 times a second. That's part of what made it so cutting edge and why people died in the process.
The heat wave here in Eastern
The heat wave here in Eastern North Carolina, USA has finally broken and I'm out of the upper 90'sF for a few days!! It's 65F on my patio this morning, whereas yesterday it was already in the upper 70's at the same time!! We had a weather front come thru last night that gave us some very much needed rain, but it was alot of rain in just an hour or so so most of it ran off and didn't soak into the ground. Last year for the month of May we had over 14 inches of rain while this year we had had less than 1 inch!! I'm hoping June makes up for some of that as they are already imposing water restrictions due to the lack of rainfall. Some areas are on a total ban on outside water use while others areas, like mine, are just restricting the times we can water our lawns, ie not between 10am and 6pm. Most people shouldn't be watering their lawns then anyway though as the heat will evaporate alot of it before it soaks into the ground. Since their are a TON of golf courses near me most of them will be staying green though as they use their ponds for watering and not the local water supplies. They do use the local water supplies when their ponds run low, they refill the ponds, but right now that isn't an option for them either.

I'd be willing to trade you half of my May rainfall (around 15" for the whole month) for your hour of rain. Not really possible of course, but sure wish I could. (You can have the lightning, hail, and strong winds that came with it too).

I would if I could too!! We had lots of lightening, thunder and some winds too but most of it was offshore as we are in a small inlet and my beach actually faces South instead of East like alot of East Coast beaches. It only got into the upper 80's today which was a very nice change of pace. I still had to water my tomatoes though but did get to eat a few while doing it.
You can tell it is that time
You can tell it is that time of year when we can get outside and just load the pc's up with work and let em run
I just checked my Einsteins for a pc upstairs from a laptop downstairs since I hadn't been up there for a couple days and saw it only had 11 left so I just reloaded that one and back down here and decided I better stop by and see if anyone had stopped by........well we had some sunny 70 degree days and some in the 50's (global warming my ass)
Today it is cloudy and rain and 52 degrees......I like that.......but have some concrete work to finish so I like the temp. but not going out in the rain to do that.
A certain person who I will not name is off shopping at the local store and when that female gets home we then have to go over to the city and do more shopping.......so I will stop by Home Depot and get 6 of those 80lb bags of extra-strength concrete and get back to that when the rain stops next week.
......as usual the Hummingpigs emptied several feeders so I will be mixing up some sugar water.......13 of the 30oz feeders and they still empty 4 of them every day.

Oh joy!!
I am always amazed at how many hummingbirds you have at your place, I have 2 feeders up that hold about 12 ounces each and they last a good 2 or 3 days. Of course my neighbors feed them too so there could be more than I think there are.
I used to have bird feeders,
I used to have bird feeders, but the squirrels were a problem. So I started feeding the squirrels corn to keep their bellies full. Alas, I finally realized that what I had were multiple cat feeding stations in the yard. So now the birds and squirrels have to feed themselves, and I just feed the cat. There is still plenty of bird song each morning and evening and everybody seems happy.
