Hmpf! I go away for a week or so and everybody stops posting. Should I declare a no-winner and have the thread closed?
Where are you people?
The only thing that would do is mean you have to start a brand new thread as you were the last winner...
I have been VERY busy with a myriad of little things, none of which amounted to very much in the long run but all of which took time to do and few of which were at home. It think I passed myself a few times but am not sure.
On a good note I did get my tomato plants planted, only 6 plants this year all cherry tomatoes, one even has a tomato on it with all the rest having dozens of flowers on them. I was also able to find 2 Citronella plants so my patio and porch are now partially bug free, each needs one more plant for the other side of them to cover the full thing, but every time I go the store they are already cleaned out.

Retirement is NOT as much fun as I had hoped...but I have NO intention of going back to work.
OK peeps, keep posting. Maybe YOU can be the next winner.

Yup most people go thru a phase of 'what do I do now' or 'OMG I have soooo much to do', it's all about managing your time now and it's harder than one might think. EVERYONE knows you are retired so thinks YOU can do everything they need someone to do, whether it's what you want to do or not!! The key is to be picky about what you do choose to do and to learn how to say NO and mean it!! When I retired people signed me up for anything and everything, I finally had to tell them ENOUGH and quit doing some things, they got mad at me for doing that but hey it's MY retirement not theirs!! Now they ask me if I will do something instead of just signing me up for stuff!
I've been sorting out a couple not-so-minor mistakes I made when I put a new m.2 SSD drive in my Linux host and migrated my home directory to it. Then I spent a while learning about rsync and cron to run automatic backups of boinc-client info (still working on that). Between those fun things and mundane things like mowing, working out, shopping for food, cooking food, eating food, caring for pets, and spending an hour or two a day with essential TV viewing, my posting commitments have faltered.
I am in the 'OMG I have soooo much to do' camp of retirement. The essential things I'm not doing are, writing a final manuscript of my research results, washing the house siding, scrapping popcorn ceilings, stripping wall paper, and painting rooms. So I guess you could call that time management.
Ideas are not fixed, nor should they be; we live in model-dependent reality.

I HATED popcorn ceilings!!! Call a local painter and ask them how much to do it for you, mine only charged me $1000 for the whole first floor of my house which was almost 1500 square feet and had it on EVERY ceiling, which included closets and a bathroom. They did it in 3 days with no mess.

That is tempting, very tempting. I've done it in two bathrooms (one with a vaulted sky-light) and it took me that long. Very unpleasant business. I actually don't mind painting - much.
I got my automated backups working. I'm quite proud of myself, thank you. Next up: doing it remotely for my other Linux host.
A week ago we upgraded from DSL (1.5 mbps, on a good day) to optic fiber (57 mbps) and life is good. As soon as we quit our land line account our total monthly telecom bill will be ~$10 less. Yes, life is very good.
So, who's winning now?
Anybody heard from Anniet? I miss her witty posts.

Painters don't really like it either but it keeps the money flowing.

I couldn't handle 1.5mbps or even 57mpbs after having uploads speeds of 280.63Mbps and download speeds of 248.50Mbps.

Me of course!!

HA! Even if we could afford it, those speeds are not even a residental option where we live. How on earth did you get such high upload speeds? Except for content providers, I didn't think ISPs allowed such a thing.
