Whenever I'm running E@H on my Dell Inspiron 8500 my monitor will not shut off even though it is set to turn off after 3 minutes. It seems not matter how short the time set for starting E@H or how short the time to power off the monitor nothing seems to work. My monitor stays on.

What version of BOINC and Einstein are you running? And, are you using the BOINC screensaver? Are you running any other BOINC projects? If so, is the problem only with Einstein? If you exit BOINC does the monitor turn off correctly? Finally, what OS are you using and have you kept it up to date?

I'm running BOINC 5.2.6 with only E@H on this lap top. OS is Windows XP with latest updates and BOINC is the screensaver. The screensaver is never displayed but work is being done at its usual rate. Leaving BOINC does not turn off the monitor. I've set the delay time anywhere between 1 to 30 minutes with monitor off set for anywhere between 1 and 10 minutes. In my preferences, the BOINC delay is around 3 minutes with 600 seconds between writes to disk. If I do a preview of the screensaver in XP and wait long enough, the screensaver shows either that BOINC is suspended or the astro-globe shows up.

You did not say which Einstein version you are running but I presume it is the standard v4.79. Therefore, it is likely you are experiencing the "graphics bug". (I suggest you do a keyword search on these Message Boards and read a little about this problem.) Your symptoms may be slightly different from the usual, but, it is likely that it is part of your problem. The two choices you have are: 1/ quit using the screensaver and "Show graphics" option; or, change to the Beta Application (see link under More Information on the E@H home page). I use the Beta App (on my Dell Inspiron 700m) and it works great; therefore, I suggest you give it a try. However, I am not sure that the Beta App will cure the "Screen Always On" problem (although it may). But, given your use of BOINC graphics it should fix at least that part of your problem.

It turns out that the problem was with RealPlayer. When I stopped it from going out to the Internet, the BOINC screensavers both E@H and SETI@H worked correctly. As far as I see it, this matter is closed.
