Hi -

It seems every time I get a new project to work, it almost immediately goes to a "Computational Error" in the Status column. This seems to happen whenever I click on the "SHow Graphs"' key. Am I doing something wrong ? Many thanks for your help in this.

Upon completing this report, I got another project downloaded and it seems to be working fine now ???? Now I am puzzled.

Well it could be b/c your an Aggie (sorry, just joking... got my MA at UT-Austin).

Seriously, there is a known graphics bug, and from looking at the details of your workunits and the problem as you describe it, I do believe the bug has bitten you.

There are two work arounds. The first work around is to merely shut off the BOINC screen saver and do not use the graphics button. This is a good thing to do as a diagnoistic. Try setting the screensaver in Windows to blank (or something else). If, when doing this, you no longer get client errors, then it's a good bet that the graphics bug got you.

It's also a good idea to update your video drivers.

However, if you really want to be able to see the graphics, then you need to download the Beta science app. I don't personally use it, but there are a number of regulars on these boards who do. They basically describe it as beta in name only.

Hope this is clear. If not, someone else who is more experienced will jump in.

Happy crunching!

Hello, I'd like to add to

Hello,

I'd like to add to the excellent information that Karen has given you. Clicking on the "Show Graphics" button on the Work tab will have the same deliterious effect - it will activate the screensaver graphics and result in the same error.

Regards to you both,

Michael

It's Kathryn, but it's ok. I answer to almost anything these days from "Sun Sang Nim (phonetically spelled) (means teacher in Korean) to Kathryn to Teacher to Kathryn Teacher to Waygookie (another phonetical spelling) (means foreigner in Korean) to Hey You!

So I can be Karen here :)

Sorry Michael. Just poking a bit of fun! I'm in a silly mood at the moment. Must be all the spicy Korean food I ate for dinner (and a serious sleep debt at the moment).

Kathryn, I apologize for

Kathryn,

I apologize for my error, and plead the "no coffee yet" defense. Also the Long Term Sleep Debt. I've been having an extremely sensitivee (sore) ribcage, front, sides, and back for about 2 weeks now, and it makes it practically impossible to find a comfortable position for long enough to drop off to sleep, and one wrong twist then wakes me to spend another hour trying to get back asleep. :-{

UGH! I have a similar problem going on. I had bronchitis and coughed until I sprained all the muscles in my back. The only thing helping me at the moment is copious amounts of ibuprofin and muscle relaxers. Thank god the bronchitis is gone.

Here's to our collective sleep deficit and lack of coffee (we had no hot water at work all day).

Take care,
Kathryn
