It seems as thought Einstein is unable to be throttled correctly. I have no control over which GPU it uses and when, perhaps no one thought of these things. I have set it to stop using the GPU's when the computer is in use, and it doesn't. At all. It reduces VLC to 10 fps. This is just sad. I've already tried all the settings I could find, and it still cripples my computer to run this.
I am running a 2009 Mac Pro, 24GB of ram, and 2.66 Ghz processor. I have a Nvidia GT 120, and an ATI 5870. I'm not really interested in letting the GT get used, it has other jobs. Does anyone know how to change this?

Incapable of Throtteling
)
There are a couple of issues.
You need to read this thread and particularly look for Oliver's solution near the end. My guess is that this BOINC bug is causing the lack of throttling. The next BRP5 app should include the fix.
Controlling the use or exclusion of GPUs is a function of BOINC client configuration. You can't do it with website preference settings. You will need to create your own client configuration file (cc_config.xml) and place it correctly. Read the instructions carefully and look for flags to do with GPU selection and control.
Cheers,
Gary.
There is a bug in the BOINC
)
There is a bug in the BOINC API that's being used in the current BRP5 Apps, which might be causing the behavior you observe. A fixed version is currently being tested (on Albert@Home), this new version will be published here on Einstein soon (hopefully tomorrow).
If, however, you have absolutely no use for tasks using a NVidia card, try setting "Use NVIDIA GPU" to "no" in Einstein@Home preferences.
