Hi everyone,

First post for a while - it's good to be back after a long break with no machines.

Now please remind me, cos I know I've seen this one before, is there a workaround when BOINC keeps on running regardless, even tho the 'work only when computer not in use' setting is selected.

Using BOINC in system mode on a dual proc box in an internet cafe, so that BOINC runs when box not in use and when user pauses for 2min or more. Or that is the theory.

In fact BOINC runs all the time, and the box is noticeably less responsive than the other machines. There is a user visible pause when asking the machine to do a search, load Word, etc as compared to the other machines.

Re-installing BOINC in single user mode is not an option.

At present, only acceptable option to cafe manager is the one where I tell BOINC to use only 1 CPU of the 2; this seems to leave the box with enough spare capacity to notice when a user hits the keyboard.

It's this computer I'm thinking of. At the time of posting you'll see that the hardware is dual cpu but re-configured to only use 1 for BOINC as from 19th Oct

Welcome back, gravywavy,

You might look to see if "Run based on preferences" is checked. If "Run always" is checked instead, it will ignore the "work only.." setting that you opted for in preferences.

Regards,

Michael
