Hi!
I joined BOINC for over 2 years!
But these two years I did it stealthily.
I run it on my relatives computers, they know little about computer, so I don't worry if they can find what I am doing.
Once I asked one of my uncles that if he could run BOINC for me on his computer at work. He refused me after complaining the whole E@H/WCG/Seti plan.
He thouhgt I should study hard right now (you may know what situation of education in China). Not doing some impracticable ideas.
And I told him that we can make progress for the world. He retorted, "Could your computer be different? let others do. one computer is of trifling importance. They won't be different if they are without you."
I thought when I can make money, I will buy my own computers to run BOINC.
But what should I say to him now?
How to try to persuade him?

Greetings Zhang Chi:

Be patient. It is hard convincing people who have preconceived ideas otherwise. Over time be gentle and unrelenting and educate your uncle on Boinc and on how your country and your countries teams are involved Boinc...

Ask him about the waterfall, one drop of water does nothing, alot of drops of water all working together can make a big difference. You contribution by itself is like one drop of water but combined with many other computers can make all the difference. And who know your computer could be the one computer that finds the answer to the question. Your uncle is right, one computer will not make the difference, but if you have the resources, why not help? Someone will be benefiting from your assistance, and isn't that the biggest thing we can do in life, help others!
