Hi
My core i5 machine harddrive failed disastrously yesterday. Access impossible so all information is lost. I will replace the harddrive today but need guidance on how to reinstate the machine on BOINC. Guidance will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Danie

Help needed with harddrive failure

Do you have a backup copy of your BOINC data directory?

If yes, restore it to the new drive and install BOINC, directing the installer to the restored directory.

If not, there's nothing you can do other than install BOINC and (re)attach to Einstein@home. There's a chance that your host will be recognised as the same as before, but perhaps it'll get a new ID. In that case, you can try to merge the two images on the online host details page.

Gruß,
Gundolf

If you cannot do as Gundolf Jahn says and recover the Boinc directory do not worry too much about it, the units you had will be sent out to others to crunch and you will just get new ones. Or in some cases your old ones will just be sent to your new machine.
