Hi:
I have been running Boinc for a # of years for Seti and about a year plus for the Einstein project. Recently I have noticed that I am not receiving new units of work for the Einstein project. I did a Project Reset and noticed that the scheduler sent 0 units of work to my machine. I am running the latest version Boinc for WIndows.
Can anyone shed some light on this.
Thanks,
Dennis

Things to check:
- When you open BOINC Manager->Advanced view, what does Einstein say in the status column on the Projects tab?
- When you go to the Activity menu, what option have you picked there?
Can you exit and restart BOINC, then do an update on Einstein.
Now post all the start up messages of BOINC from the Messages tab.

Hi Dennis,
Your computers list shows a total of 5 machines that have been registered with the project at various stages but several of these have the same specs so I assume you have one of your machines with multiple IDs. It looks like you actually have two separate physical machines, a PIII 1400MHz which was registered in April 2005 and a P4 3.0GHz which was registered in May 2005. The PIII has been continuously registered and doesn't have multiple IDs. It currently has no work. The P4 has multiple IDs and the latest instance was registered in March 2007 and it currently has one task onboard which it received on June 23 and is showing on the website as being "in progress". It is due to expire on July 11 which is fairly soon now.
I guess you must be referring to the PIII machine, since the other one does have a task in progress. Without more information from you, it's hard to say exactly why your PIII machine isn't getting more work. When you first start the Machine and BOINC starts, a log of messages is created which you can view with BOINC Manager. It is very likely that the reason for not getting work is contained within those messages. If you can't see the reason for yourself, you could cut and paste about the first 20-30 lines of messages that you get when you first startup BOINC. That would make it easier for someone to diagnose your situation.
In addition to the messages themselves, several of your preference settings are likely to have a bearing on things. You can easily review those settings by going to your account page on the website and clicking on the preference links. Check out and let us know the values for your resource shares, your connect interval and your extra days of cache settings.
Finally, (and this is where the problem most likely will reside) you should also look at some of the variables in your state file (client_state.xml) which you will find in your BOINC folder. As long as you don't save any changes, you can browse it with a text editor like notepad and check out a couple of variables near the start of the file and also in the Einstein section. You should search for the tags and near the start and the tags , and in the Einstein section. All of these will have a bearing on your ability to get new work.
My guess is that you may very well have a very low value for which will effectively prevent you from getting new work as the server will calculate that (given your history) you can't finish the work in the available time. Of course there are other possible reasons as well, related to , which is why you have to look at a number of different things. Only you can do that. The rest of us cannot see this sort of detailed information which is needed for a proper analysis.
EDIT: Jord obviously replied more succinctly whilst I was being long winded :-).
Cheers,
Gary.
