Hallo @ all.I hope to get a fast help for my Problem.
I changed the Graphics Card. Now there's a Geforce 2MX 200 64MB Video-RAM in the PC. Installed the latest supporting ForceWare drivers(v 93.71) and DirectX 9.0c new. But BOINC still is not running. There's still the Exit Code 128 with the DirectX Version Problem.
.Net Framework Version 2.0 with SP1 is installed, too.
What should be the minimum hardware and Software to run Boinc, especially Einstein@home?
[b]The System BOINC is running on:]\\b]

  • *Gigabyte GA-686LX4 Mainboard
    *Intel P II 333Mhz
    *192MB RAM
    *Fujitsu MPC3043AT (4,3 GByte)
    System:2,5GB 1,5GB for pagefile
    *Gainward Geforce2 MX200
    *3Com XL 10/100 Etherlink (3C905B-TX)
    *W2k SP4
    *DirectX 9.0c
    * .NET 1.1 SP1 + .NET 2.0SP1 installed

I would appreciate, if i could get Einsten@home run till tomorrow.

Greetz @ thanks for helping.

Hardware+Software requirements to run BOINC?

I have similar old timers running BOINC without issues.

My German is a lttle rusty, but this looks like a permmisions issue.

So how did you install BOINC? Single user, Shared User, or Service?

Generally speaking you get the best results installing as a service running under the system account.

Well...with the new WUs I think that a P II 333 MHz might take at least 5 or 6 days for each WU ... CPU time, of course. To meet the deadline, you will want to have this box run 24/7. (And as the P IIs lack SEE support, it probably won't benefit from future optimizations of the client as well).

I don't want to discourage anybody, but it would be frustrating to invest a large effort into getting E@H up and running on this host only to find out that (at the moment, at least) the deadlines for workunit completion are too tight for this kind of CPU.

Acutally the FPU in the PII

Acutally the FPU in the PII is a very strong performer for it's time so may even do better than your estimate based on what my K6-2's are doing.

Regarding optimization, if history repeats itself 'Akosification' won't leave the old timers behind. They'll get a pretty good kick from the afterburners too.

My 400 MHz PII Deschutes

My 400 MHz PII Deschutes running SuSE Linux 10.1, BOINC 5.8.17, has employed 292k s to complete a S5R2 WU, giving me 204 credits, that is a double credit/time ratio compared to a S5R1 unit. RAM is 320 MB, L2 cache 512k. No errors.

There seem to be WUs of different "size" around, my own ancient P III 866 (x2) Coppermine host got 309 credits / 188 ksec (for one CPU). Yes, the pre-Netburst Intel CPUs weren't that bad after all !

Still, even if 4 days / WU is perhaps a more accurate estimate for a P II 333, you will get very close to the deadline limit if you run it for less then 8 h / day.
