i used to be able to set pref so harddrive did not work all the time but now it seems to spinn all the time bonic is used. i have to snooze it thoughts?
The only setting you can use is the "write to disk" option, which sets the amount of time between checkpoints being written to the disk, for as far as the science application supports that.
But BOINC will write its own status report to disk multiple times a second. Then once a second it will make a copy of the client_state.xml file into the client_state_prev.xml file (for backup) and write the new status to the client_state.xml file. There's no setting available to increase that time.
It depends on how much work you have cached for the size of these files. If mere kilobytes, it isn't noticeable. if you have lots of work and these files are several megabytes big, you'll notice it some more.

Just curious, are both pc's doing this or just one, or are they the same pc? I don't see any tasks that are being run now on either. The one each had been assigned has already passed the deadline.
