Was thinking about joining Gridcoin to offset electricity expenses. Any Pro/Cons about Gridcoin? THX
GpuGrid had a long discussion about it awhile back and some people say they do make money at it while others not so much. It seems the key is to not be on the same Project everyone else is but still within the GridCoin Team of 'whitelisted' Projects. Meaning you are one of 1,000 people, not one of 10,000 people sharing the credits earned. Of course the faster the video cards, or cpu's, you have the more credits you can earn. The one thing they REQUIRE is that you leave your existing Team and join the GrdiCoin Team to get any credits at all, for me that makes it a no go.
Thanks for the reply, don't like joining a team so will let it go for now. Maybe will save enough by suspending the GPU's during peak hours. Not a great burden but last month was 100 USD above my average for last year before my switching to Ryzen 8c/16t and multiple GPU's. Heard APS may be reducing their increase so that will help also, if true.

I WISH!! I have 16 pc's running all with gpu's in them and my bill is twice what my neighbors pay for a similar sized house and household. $100 isn't even 20% of my monthly bill summer or winter.
Our quarterly bill last summer before getting solar and with only 2 PC's running was AUD$1000 (USD$774) for the quarter. I think the air con was the main culprit but even then we used it sparingly.
As for Gridcoin...don't do it. Join a REAL team not some account manager. GC is an anomaly in my books. Doesn't exist.

I'm paying $600US a month

My two Avalon6 asic miners can make about $150 each a month, the cost of electricity to run them costs about half that, add in what GridCoin pays you and it MAY be worthwhile running it IF you want all the hassles of "wallets" etc etc. Some very heavy hitters have been hacked or scammed out of their money, and once a bitcoin is stolen there's not much of a way to get it back again.
My wife would literally KILL me if my BOINC habit were creating that kind of bill! lol. It's hot enough in one room with 3 PC's going (GPU's in 2 of them)

Dedication mate.
I have my hobby and she has hers, she buys a brand new camera every other year that costs as much as 3 to 4 months of the electric bill and has as much fun with it too! I did not start out that way, it kinda grew to where it is and she does complain once in a while until I bring out the new 'fluid head' tripod she just bought for $400US!!
I have a dedicated room in my garage for my pc's, which she also likes because I go out there and she gets to watch the tv with ought having to go to the bedroom to do it. My pc room has it's own a/c system which I keep at 82F so it doesn't run too hard, it's okay once you are in there for a little bit, plus it's also cool in there when it's in the 100's outside. I have 16 pc's in that room each with a gpu in them all running 24/7.
