Just wondering why my Geforce 6800 shoots the fan to full speed when I open BOINC. It's annoying when I just try to surf the web. I mean the whole app minimized to the tray there's no 3D going on what so ever.

Even without running graphics the mathematical calculations performed by the client are _VERY_ CPU intensive creating a lot of heat.

It still shouldn't affect the video card (assuming as stated, the screensaver isn't running) unless the case cooling solutions are extremely inadequate.

maha_x, are your case fans running? Is your system in a location where it can breathe? (not tucked in a tight space)

Sounds like a Video Driver

Sounds like a Video Driver Bug.

NVidia's integrated Fan Control Software is known for having a few issues in the past when running specific Programs (last time I heard of it over a year ago, it was a specific Screensaver actually shutting off the Fan of the Video Card)

Either update the Driver to see if it helps, or file a bug report with NVidia, so they can fix it in the next release (they're actually quite fast when it comes to such significant malfunctions)
