I confess, i have been taking a few short-cuts lately.

 Note to self:

When updating graphics drivers on linux

a) stop boinc running

b) run any scripts from outside the Xwindows environment

c) make sure you have a copy of other drivers local

d) if you are the early adopter say to yourself "Do you feel lucky AgentB"?

So, ignoring a, b and d - i have had a fun hour with a low res command line fixing it up, 108 errored BRP4 tasks (apologies to wingmen), and quite rightly the host is on the naughty step ...

[HOST#11905468] not reliable; max_result_day 1

but  - AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 Released For Ubuntu & Red Hat Linux Systems

is installed.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if it can crunch a BRP4G!

Any particular reason for

Any particular reason for changing to the AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 driver?

Annoyingly AMD have not yet (may never) published release notes, so i can't say.  I had hoped it would address the following issues

  • Flooding xorg.0.log with messages
  • Flooding syslog when running 2 or more tasks
  • Suspect higher rate of BRP4G invalids (this may be a "bad beam" problem)

It didn't.  After a bit of effort i found workarounds to the first two, and we'll see if that helps the third. See my other post
